Have you tested your sandisk USB drive to see what the actual transfer speeds are?. The reason I ask is there are a lot of bootleg sandisk USB drives being sold on amazon right now. So far, I have had bootleg Sandisk and Samsung USB and Micro SD cards from amazon. They will show the correct size. But when you go to transfer files, the transfer speeds are way off, and then you could get corrupt files a lot easier.
Bootleg storage is one of the biggest things on Amazon because it’s so easy to do and people won’t know unless they really test it or look up the signs of bootleg for a very specific device.
Due to the transfer requirements of this printer, I could see a bootleg device having all sorts of issues. Some of the tests are not the greatest as they don’t really reflect a real read and write speed without loading the unit during the test. They will get you a read and write speed within seconds.
I use 2.5 SSD drives myself. 500GB and 1TB respectively on my H2D-L and H2D. No issues. But I’m also guessing the speeds are good for the information you listed. I’ll have to check them once I get home. I use them constantly for Timelapse and all that. No glitches.
It depends on what is recorded. From what I see on my USB key, If you have the setting on and record the full print video, if fills at about 1GB every 20minutes so it will be filled very quickly. If on the other hand you only record timelapses, 1GB is about 15h of printing.
Hi, I’m not sure what USB size would be ideal, and I’d appreciate your recommendation.
I’m currently deciding between a 512 GB and a 1 TB drive, but I’m not really sure how much storage I’ll actually need.
Could you also let me know what kind of read/write speed would be considered optimal for this use case?
Timelapses are not helpful at all when diagnosing issues. One would lose all the key information the full recording might give.
3GB per hour means that it only costs 72GB per day of printing. Bambu uses 65% of the drive for recording so a 128GB drive can easily hold a ~24 hour long session. 256GB drive can hold ~50hours…
This one works if you’re careful. I don’t like key sticking out too much to avoid risking it getting caught when operating on or around the printer. If you’re more careful that I am it ‘s fine otherwise it’s better you select one of the slim USB key.
Yes, I’ve been thinking about it, and a solution came to mind that I’ve seen here before – using a cable. Can someone please tell me exactly whether I need a USB cable that connects to the left or to the right? Or could someone take a photo of the USB port – ideally a top-down view while standing directly in front of the printer?
Reporting back:
Thanks to the recommendation by @maximit I acquired the Samsung FIT 512GB USB drive:
It has worked out well for me. I’ve been using it since early May without issue. My H2D is in a 90F garage and I’ve lately been doing 7 hour prints using PPS-CF, with a nozzle temp of 320F, bed temperature of 120F, and chamber heated to 65F. No problemo.
Sorry I meant to post the speed tests, I’m using that one also, it’s faster than the 256 (at least the pics published in this thread). Holds about 140 hours.
