Z Axis appears to not properly adjust after hot end change

So I decided to downgrade the firmware and once again attempt to print for the 3rd time a Jack-o-lantern in prep for halloween, once again as it always seems to occur around the same height in my print the prime tower got knocked loose as seen in the video around 1:07. Taking a close look it would appear that some extra filament is deposited and the next pass around completely knocks the tower loose. So at this point I started to question my filament even though I dried the PETG for 24 hours prior to printing with it.

After the tower knocked loose I let the print continue to try and see if I could figure anything out. As you continue to what the video around 2:55 you will see a clip from a second video start where I have circled a bulge starting to occur in the print and at this point I could hear the hot end scraping all the top of the print. I now believe all my issues with larger prints are caused by the printer not properly adjusting the z axis after a hot end change.

This would explain my consistent issues across multiple Bambu Studio Releases and Printer Firmware updates

ok apart from the topic, it also looks like that you have crazy amount of bed movement during the print in the same layer (starting from 1:49). You probably better check the bed leveling.

When the tower failed it looks like it’s not caused by a machine failure, but the previous layers where it failed to print on the tower.



This bridging step failed for some reason (see from 1:07), you would notice that it left a mess afterwards:

And when your tower failed, it’s the nozzle bumping on that messy part.

So it doesn’t look like the problem that you assumed, but just, why the bed is moving so much when your nozzle is printing fast on the outer wall.

If I were you I would be doing a serious bed traming process first. Get a dial indicator and print a jig for the dial indicator and mount it on your toolhead:

I still don’t like the scrapping sound I heard as the head moved across the print, but I see how this could be a leveling issue also. Just seems odd that it always seems to start to occur for me around the same heights in all my prints which is why I assume the z axis is getting out of sync after a number of changes

Alright - so I have manually leveled the bed, manually calibrated the flow dynamics and rate, and slowed down all the speeds, if this doesn’t work I am at a loss…

@hotellonely - since you noticed what you considered excessive bed movement in the last video, I actually have a live stream going of the current print. It isn’t from the printers camera but one mounted to the door. To me there is still movement just as before after I leveled it, but if you have some spare time and you are board would you ride taking a peak? Do you still see what you saw before, I know it isn’t the same angle…

Quite hard to tell from this video but it does look better. Try print a large square in vase mode next time and upload the ipcam videos

Ok so I thought maybe as it made it farther then ever and now a different ugly problem occurs, the print head knocked the supports over while moving across the print at about 40 seconds in this video: https://youtu.be/-s2yr9d0FD8

I have printed tall prints in my H2D, however the only successful ones are using a single filament, any time I add two colors or a filament for support interface something gets knocked over

ok I did a 295x300x5 square here, I kept it in the dual print zone of the H2D since this is where I try and keep all my prints sized so I can use both print heads - let me know what you think of the leveling, also if you can take a look at the other vide showing the supports getting knocked over…

And now the nozzle blocker got completely hung up on the print, I tried digging through the ipcam footage but I can’t find the exact moment that it first hung up. Anyways I replaced it this morning, not sure where to go from here if I continue to try to pint or just give up using the second hot end which makes this a very expensive H2S

I think your bed is still not levelled

I think I am having the same issue. Got new h2d and tried printing multicolor poop buckets.
They all have layer on the first nozzle change.
I now tried printing smaller object with nozzle change without the tower and it happened as well.
I tried multiple prints and I get that layer shift all the time.
Fillaments are dried and I tried PLA-PLA, PLA-TPU.
I tried two versions of firmware 01.02.00.00 and also downgrade to 01.01.04.00.

Did you run the “high precision nozzle offset calibration” on the printer?

And after a firmware update I would advise to run your calibrations again.

Yeah the issue was that high precision nozzle calibration turned out great but the prints were awful. Bambu lab support suggested belt tensioning (cant post link to wiki) and it resolved the issue.
