Z Axis Failure 0300-0d00-0002-0008

Please be gentle…and apologies for the length but I’m trying to cover all the angles:

I have a Bambu P1S printer with AMS, just using Bambu PLA basic filament.

It is at the latest firmware level

Sods law, the printer is 13 months old so outside of the warranty by a month.

The main problem is that I am getting the error code:

0300-0d00-0002-0008 on the printer display and

0300-4000 111922 “Z axis homing failed – the task has been stopped”

This started yesterday after I had done the usual monthly maintenance (clearing out the filament bits, lubing the rods, cleaning the fans etc). It was fine up until then. It ran calibration ok and I started a print which failed. Since then, I’m just getting the error.

I have reseated the build plate (Bambu Dual-Texture PEI Plate) numerous times and checked the wiki ensuring it isn’t snagging/touching anything as the bed raises/lowers (more about the raising/lowering further down)

I took the back off and made sure all was clear in the Z axis rod

The bearings on all 3 rods appear to be flush (not raised)

It fails to calibrate (same error) and won’t print anything

In desperation, I tried printing the standard benchie, same failure, same error

Maybe related or not……

When I try and raise/lower the bed z axis using the Printer display, it gives me a pop up

”Axis z has not been homed ! Press OK to home .” and an OK button.

I press Ok and it does about 30 seconds of vibration and banging the print head onto the plate and when I then press the down button on the control panel to move the plate, it gives me the same “Press OK to home” pop up message

I’ve been able to move the bed up and down using Bambu Studio/Device although when I select the down arrow 10 I get the following pop up:

“Please home all axes (click [picture of a house]) to locate the toolhead’s position. This prevents device moving beyond the printable boundary and causing equipment ware.”

Button to Go Home or Close

Home makes it go through about 30 seconds of moving etc but no change

Close allows the bed to move 10 spaces down

I repeated the down multiple times (pressing close each time) until it got to the bottom then up again (same messages etc)

I’m stuck! Googled to see if there was a repair shop near Manchester, England where I live but so far, no joy. Any help or advice would be most welcome! I have raised a support ticket but, as I say, just out of warranty so not holding my breath.

Maybe disconnect every piece of electronics attached to the printer and then do the factory calibration. That means any AMS’s and 3rd party electronics you may have installed.
See what happens with the factory calibration without any extra hardware muddying the water.
Check all the cable connections are correct and tight.
I have found that sometimes the error code doesn’t match the real root cause.
Ask anyone, including me, about getting a “Toolhead Front Cover has Fallen” fault when the cover is fine.
Check the harness connections on the toolhead for proper alignment.

Thanks very much for the suggestion (and I know what you mean about some misleading error messages!).
I just tried your suggestion (I only had to disconnect the AMS as it’s the only additional bit I’ve got) but same thing. Got to about 30% of a calibration then the plate went to the bottom and the same failure message.
All of the connectors look secure to me (although the cable assembly underneath the hot plate doesn’t seem to fit snuggly flush?).
In the words of an engineer mate of mine “I’m going to need a bigger hammer” but I appreciate your suggestions.

(TLDR summary at the bottom of this post)

I just had this error today and couldn’t clear it. Normally it’s just a bit of filament stuck on the rear rod. My machine was new in October 2024, so it’s almost 1 year old with just over 1100 hours of print time.

Turned out the SD card was corrupt!

I formatted a spare 128bg card I had as FAT32 (not exFAT, that didn’t work in the printer) and thought I was back in business.

My Mac could read the old card but encountered errors when trying to copy files from it - looks like a bunch were corrupt with weird file names.

After replacing the card, that error went away but I still go Z homing errors.

Manually moving the Z axis all the way up fixed it. Now I can print again.

So, fixes for me:

  • new SD card formatted as FAT32
  • Manually moving the Z axis all the way to the top (using the controls on the P1S display).

Hope this helps someone in the future.
