Z Binding/Wobble X1C

Hello, I have 4 X1C printers and my first 2 X1C printers include, 1 Kickstarter printer and the 2nd I bought about 3 months later. the 3rd and 4th I bought, maybe 4 and 5 months later.

  • The 2nd printer started giving me the z-binding issue on the outer walls. I tried all the general maintenance following the wiki (Clean z rods, re-grease, clean carbon x/y rods, retention belts) and that did not work
    – 4-5 weeks later the 1st printer started to give me the same exact issues.

  • I notice when I print 1 pc its perfectly fine, when printing multiple pcs on the bed then the problem occurs.

  • Support suggested I clean all the idle pulley silver wheels on x/y axis and I also included the z axis. They did indeed have some build up that looked like compressed pimples of rubber build up.

  • I clean all that gunk from all of the silver idle pulleys re-ran another test of multiple pc and as you can see in the picture for reference no fix.

  • Support suggests that it may need new x/y belts replacements. It’s interesting that they didn’t suggest no z belts replacements.

  • This is where I am stuck

  • Please read this other persons post as they have the same issue to the T, they just went through multiple test but its just like my issue
    ( Quality problems on walls (Z-Banding?) )

  • My 2 newer printers don’t have the issues at all so with all this testing and reading it seems to me that the belts MUST be worn out as my 2 older printers both have 5.8k ± 100 hours on each printer and the new printers have half 2k - 3k hours.
Also, the 2 older printers had the same issue appear 4-5 weeks apart from each other.

  • I will be replacing belts and HOPE that resolved the problem.

Thanks for sharing.
Indeed, it may be time to replace the belts.
Please share the outcome.

Hey there,

I am the guy from the other post, the solution was: replacing the XY-belts (sent by Bambu Lab Support)

Update: I replaced the OLD x/y belts with new ones and the z binding/ spiral/ wobble is now fixed.

  • Rule of thumb replace x/y belts after 5k-5.5k Hours run time.

In the picture, you will see the left is New and the Right is OLD the z binding goes away.
