01.03.00.00 Firmware bed leveling issue

Hey guys,

Anyone else having issues with the latest firmware update (01.03.00.00) on the new P2S?

I just updated and ran a full calibration, but the hotend seems to be sitting way too low relative to the bed. When printing the first layer, it’s pretty obvious that the nozzle is scraping/too close to the bed, causing a rough first layer.

Are any of you experiencing the same thing after the update? Let me know if you found a workaround!

That’s strange - nothing related to that was changed in the firmware version; it only included updates for TOS and time‑lapse. Unless Bambu left something out of the notes.

  • Could you upload a photo of it? Even just the rough first layer would help.
  • When you say “full calibration,” does that mean you also calibrated the filament itself?
  • And what makes you so sure the nozzle is too close to the build plate? I do believe you - I just want to understand your reasoning. Since you say it’s so obvious, please describe what makes it so obvious and, for example, rules out other causes.

I am having the same issue with the 0.2 nozzle. i have replaced the nozzle with a brand new .2 nozzle from Bambu Labs but can no longer print anything the nozzle clogs every time. Also carried out the Calibrations several times.

Here are the photos of the first layer test on my Bambu Textured PEI plate.

To answer your questions:

  • Filament calibration: Yes, by full calibration I meant I calibrated the filament as well (flow rate, flow dynamics). I am using Sunlu HS PETG, which I had already fully calibrated prior to the update. It was printing absolutely flawlessly with these exact same settings right before the firmware flash.
  • Why it’s obviously a low nozzle: If you look at the photo where the print is held up to the light, you can clearly see translucent, almost paper-thin patches in the center and on the left. The nozzle is physically plowing through the extruded PETG and squishing it so hard against the bed that it creates these transparent spots. Other causes like under-extrusion would leave gaps between lines, but here the lines are completely smashed together and overlapping due to the lack of vertical clearance.
  • The firmware connection: Interestingly, as you can see on the other photo, the thickness changes drastically towards the edges of the plate. It seems the mesh compensation or the bed leveling matrix got messed up or reset during the update process.

Even if the patch notes only mentioned TOS and time-lapse, it’s not uncommon for minor sensor thresholds or leveling algorithms to shift after a firmware flash.

What do you think looking at the photos?

Usually, the Bamub writes this in the path notes, but that doesn’t mean they don’t forget to do so sometimes.

This behavior with this firmware hasn’t been reported to the developers on GitHub yet; I just checked. In theory, you could reinstall the previous firmware and see if the printer behaves differently - which would immediately confirm your suspicion.

I have to admit, I can’t make out anything in the photos except for the pattern of a textured printed plate. Maybe the photo is too strongly compressed.

I would try using the previous version of the firmware on the printer right now, doing exactly the same thing, and then take a photo of that as well. As a direct comparison. That’s probably the easiest and fastest way to solve the problem, as well as clear proof.

Maybe as a second step, you could post on GitHub directly to the developers, if you’d like.

Thanks for checking GitHub, man! I really appreciate it.

You’re right about the photos—the compression must have eaten the details. In person, you can actually feel the texture difference with your fingers.

I strongly suspect that the “Z-axis motor noise cancellation” introduced in the latest firmware changed how the stepper motors operate during the homing or bed-leveling phase. A slight shift in the motor dynamics or frequencies could easily throw off the Eddy current sensor, leading to this incorrect Z-offset.

I’m going to downgrade the firmware to the previous version via the Bambu Handy app right now, run the exact same calibration, and print the test again. If the issue disappears, it will confirm that the new Z-axis noise cancellation or leveling algorithm is indeed buggy.

I’ll take a side-by-side comparison photo and post the results here shortly!

Hey man, just a quick update: over the weekend I tried printing a functional part with PA6-CF, and it turned out awesome after the downgrade!

As you can see in the photo, the one on the right (printed on the rolled-back firmware) is perfect, while the other two on the new firmware got totally ruined because the nozzle was riding way too low. The downgrade definitely fixed the bed leveling issue for me!

Honestly, I think the new FW is definitely buggy. It feels like they changed a lot more under the hood than what they actually listed in the changelog.
