300 nozzle limitation

This addressed especially for Bambulab. X2D is a great and capable machine, but limitation of 300 degrees feels very weird because it has 120 bed and active chamber heater, everything that makes it capable printing PPA-CF/PPS-CF. It’s like giving soup fork for it. It works, but not perfect.

I understand that you probably don’t want to cannibalize h2 series sales, but these are different types of price range, and they still will have so many things to justify their price. This is only this thing makes this printer a deal breaker for many people. So could we get at least 320? For PPA-CF at least.

Edited - the review corrected itself, it is 300.

I agree, 300 makes very little sense given the printer’s intended use and other features.

I suspect maaaybe BL will release a high temp kit at some point.

IMO, looks like they are start to put clear differentiation on capabilities. Also understanding that the filaments that print up there are largely $100+ a kg. I would think the next level up is that market place.

But like you said it would have been cool.

320 deg hotend would be great for sure - I have H series machines but heating that chamber up uses a lot of power and it’d be great to use the X2D for smaller high temp parts.

The X2D has its own vision encoder, it’s clearly designed to do technical things, let us use all the technical materials you sell!

300/120/65 is a huge range of consumer materials, nearly everything consumer oriented but PPS and some flavors of PET. It’s alright.

h2 toolhead fans might have influenced the heat limits.

Ya I really wish the nozzle was 320c for PPS-CF. Most of my engineering filament prints are Siraya Tech PPA-CF though, so I’m ok with it. I have my H2D if I need to do any crazier filaments. I’m hoping they unlock a higher temp with a firmware update eventually, because these hotends should be plenty capable of higher temps.

300 degrees is not best scenario for PPA-CF, i print with 320 and it gives best layer adhesion.

This is a $650 printer. I understand the want to have just a bit more, and then won’t hurt to have a bit more after that. But if it had everything one desires then what will the $800 and $1000 printers have? :slight_smile:

it’s most likely an artificial firmware limitation, and even if they use thermistor that is capable up to 300 degrees, replacing it with what is capable of 350 degrees cost almost nothing.

There are so many “just a bit more” features that a printer can have, in addition to nozzle temp. I guess they have to stop somewhere. This is the lowest cost version of the X2 printers, it could be just that the users it is targeting rarely have the need to have the nozzle temp higher than 300.

Look here, I don’t think you understand, I’m just asking for just a little bit more (and maybe just one more just a bit more after that) but not more than that. Not much more anyways.

This is how they get you to spend more on an H2.

I am just surprised that so many people care. If you are spending 150 dollars on a spool of filament, I would have though they would have already had an H2.

I think it would be good if they will release high temp kit with different thermistor and board to handle higher temps, I totally understand that 99% of people don’t need that.

Just add a 33 ohm 1/4 watt resistor inline with the thermistor.

Now you have a 333 degree nozzle. See “poor man’s x1e” thread for the formula to calculate new set temperatures for your different filaments to compensate for the resistor.

or install the resistor with a switch and only throw the switch when you need that higher temp…

The goal is of course not to make printer expensive, I’m glad for that pricing and appreciate Bambu’s approach. But let me add a few things:

I know that most of you probably conclusively think that adding 350 degrees would affect it’s price and as an engineer who built controlling boards for 3d printers and created some DIY printers i can assure you it’s not. The reason is purely to upsell. But still if BambuLab reads it, i would like to suggest to make high temp official mod that allows for 350 degrees for those who needs them. Even if it will cost extra 200$ so it will cover up upsell, i would buy it.
Still i can’t fully agree that making x2d print with 350 degrees makes it upsell because h2d still have so many features that x2d just can’t replicate like better two nozzle setup, bigger build volume, laser/cutting addons, more industrial grade components.

I would never replace my H2D with X2D, X2D for my use case is planed to use for lower grade engineering stuff, like PC,ABS. And H2D primarily for PPA/PPS. I’m asking this for those people who wants to use super polymers without spending too much for it. @CincinnatiDesigns mentioned that PPA-CF costs 150 dollar, but i for example buy for 40$, because i buy it directly from China, in USA you have Siraya tech, which is still cheaper.

No. It would effect the price, just not by much. The price does not come from using an upgraded part, it comes from having to manufacture a new part instead of reusing an existing part.

I think it makes sense considering the demand for high temp filaments like PPA/PPS. This is more about people being upset that there is a limitation.

Admittedly they could have done it, but even the X1 did not have a high temp hotend. Damn, I remember the days when 300c was high temp.

But I also come from the point of view that filaments like ABS and Nylon blends are more than enough in 99.9 percent of cases. I’ve played around with the more unique stuff, but at the end of the day, I am loading up a spool of 25 dollar ABS. For example, I have been running a printed BOV housing on my mustang for about a year now. I made it out of PET-CF and it has been able to withstand 32 PSI of boost and 200F engine bay temperatures.

Actually I think it would not affect it at all, as the nozzles are exactly the same as in H2 series.

Agree, there’s no reason to not use h2 series heating assembly, the cost even the same and they actually specifically manufactured it for x2 series anyway, you can’t use it nowhere else.

Having had a look inside a P2S toolhead I suspect the X2D is much the same - complex and cramped. Good thing you only need a tiny resistor to game the system because I’m not sure a bigger one would fit anywhere!
