A lot of stolen designs are being uploaded

@MakerWorld lots of proof above this guy is abusing the system

With this guy it will only stop if he’s banned. Removing his content does nothing. He got what he wanted already and he will keep uploading, as he said, until he gets more coupons…

Theft should result in a ban

It also removes the credits he earned with it, he luckily doesn’t get to keep them.

Seems like a difficult way to go about life. Life is stressful enough without putting yourself in situations where you’re arguing with people on a forum, only to have the majority of your items removed. Seems like a lot of friction to put one’s self through.

And if he already swapped them for vouchers?

Then his points go into the negative. So there’s a chance he cashed out but there is still a penalty for future points as he has to churn away the negative points first.

Hopefully that will serve as a disincentive for him to return and to take his criminal ways to another service.

Unless they pulled the offending models down themselves. Then the account will stay positive and they’ll come back to it at a later date when the spotlight is off of them.

Correct. That’s why i always recommend reporting users/models instead of contacting them, asking to take it down. Otherwise they stay unpunished.

I have repeatedly reported that user and he keeps coming back.

I have implored BL to ban him as he has no regard for other peoples property or the rules required to be a good citizen here and is a constant repeat offender.

Maybe we need to get this to a higher party to stop this scourge as he is doing exactly the same as BL said all the other scammers did that they decried.

I have watched " TanishqPlays" over the course of his account randomly as I browse MakerWorld. Reported many of his models in the past, known thief. Not the first time, a lot of his removed model violated other creators and even the contests. You must have negative points on your account by now and you’re still abusing it.

He really needs to stop playing victim, he has as track record. imo should be banned.

The shady practices are so wide spread because there’s now an incentive to steal. Prior to Printables and MW, I’d come across a model copy maybe twice per year. Now P and MW are filled with networks of accounts that post, boost, submit makes and false reviews, etc. Now, I come across 3-4 per day without even looking for them.

It’s a solvable problem, but there’s no incentive for the sites to address it. More models, more interactions, more “users”, etc draws content from unsuspecting makers, which gets stolen and cycle continues. Eventually it’ll all implode when legal threats start coming in. Until then, the sites probably only REALLY care about paid-for models getting posted.

I’m only checking this thread because I ran across a Printables account with 12,500 downloads, 7,700 likes and 63 posted models that only have images from product postings on AliExpress and Temu.

It seems that forcing a more verifiable ID to collect prizes and more liberal account bans would go a long way. For example, redeeming points or prizes could require a $5 charge or only apply a big discount (eg - 90% off). Then the CC number can be used as a second ID for confirmation, while also deterring multiple count registrations by requiring a fee to get anything.

Hell, place those fees in an escrow (could be a second type of “points” that can only be redeemed during specific events) and that credit is applied after a certain time or at an event. For example, the prize gives 80% off with the 20% balance dispensed as tokens that have zero value until some time has elapsed. So, win a contest and you get a $100 thing for $80 and 20 tokens. The site now has a CC# on file. The users have to hold on to the tokens for a while, during which there’s an opportunity for account reports to come in, moderators to double check, etc. If that goes smoothly for, say, 6 months, the tokens take on a value of $1 per token. If sketch is uncovered during those 6 months, offer the user an opportunity to appeal. If they lose the appeal, the account is barred from future contests and that CC# is blacklisted for future contests (not regular store purchases).

There are all sorts of variations for contest eligibility and additional modes of reward. Double token events, tokens that start at a low value and gain value with time, etc. But, the basic idea is to decouple contest record/status, MW (model posting) account, and Bambu Labs account for purchasing, but aggregate them for contest prize redemption. It’s pretty straightforward, but sounds complicated when described.

Anyhow, just rambling.

tl;dr - The sites with free accounts and contest rewards incentivize gaming the system, which is rampant in P and MW. You wouldn’t allow someone to continually order printers and there are mechanisms to prevent that. Apply a similar system to the contests by requiring a minimal fee to redeem prizes that is later returned in store credit.

Hmmm, friends and colleagues huh?

This comes to what i said before. A scammer always tries to downplay others with lies and it gets to the point where he lies more and more to cover the previous lies told before. I really don’t know how @MakerWorld can see this and not ban him or the machine (if it’s possible) he is using. That way he wouldn’t come here again. It’s not much, but it’s one person less to be stealing models and point farming.
This way he will give some time and will upload again. I am pretty sure.

Well done

I saw another member here, and he turned other peoples models into busts and claiming their his as there is no remix refences listed. I found some of the originals and reported but bambu turned it down. of the original makers had a post on his cult asking about it and he said to report it. that was before I ran into it.

This one is kind of funny and actually smart. In the last hours he added about 50 print profiles on different models and creators. Went through some of the profiles and from what i see he only downloads the 3mf and uploads it again as a new profile, farming points from profile downloads/prints. Clever…

To be fair, i only caught it because he added a print profile that is the same as mine but he didn’t even tried to cover it. No print images on most of them and from 114 profiles and no actual models uploaded, he gets his share.

Is this a new way of farming points without “stealing” models but cheating through print profiles?

Anyone uploading a profile must also provide photo evidence of a successful print.

Otherwise, it is ineligible to remain.

That is what i also thought but this guy has created near 30 profiles just today. A few more on the 21th, another batch on the 18th and so on. All downloaded and uploaded with just a new name and no pictures on any of them… Will check them out tomorrow again because it’s late now
