Am I? What I have explained Is just common sense, I hope.
Neither they did now. Skilled person is not the same with certified person. They do not ask that this installation to certified by an electrician. The do not say the word certified anywhere.
Let me explain so we can end this discussion here.
Shorter version: EN 50678 is a European standard that provides a general testing procedure to verify the effectiveness of protective measures for electrical appliances after repair, therefore ensuring the safety of persons carrying out repairs on electrical equipment and of persons using repaired equipment. This standard applies to appliances or devices that are either plug-in type A or are permanently connected to final circuits with a rated voltage of more than 25 V AC. Blah blah…
What is the purpose of it?
The requirements are aimed at ensuring that the essential protective measures continue to function after a piece of equipment has been repaired.
Is it mandatory?
The standards remains voluntary.
Conclusion by other articles.
While the standard provides guidelines for verifying the effectiveness of the protective measures of electrical equipment after repair, it does not explicitly require certification or qualification. However, it’s always a good practice to have electrical repairs done by a qualified professional to ensure safety and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
You should verify the info provided by others, which in this case is just misinformation. And documented = recorded on video, should be enough.
Okay, let’s change ‘certified person’ to ‘person with sufficient knowledge in electricity so that signing a document has legal validity’. The issue here is whether the warranty depends on fulfilling this requirement or not.
To be fair ive never seen any other company say this in this way about fitting a part. To those who dont know its confusing and intimidating and not even remotely helpful since it amounts to someone saying ‘yes, looks fine, whatever’. 90% of people wont do anything.
FYI some people are getting their shipment notifications now, and bambu are asking users to send pictures of the new bed installation to ‘prove’ it was done correctly.
Have the printer tested by an Electrically Skilled Person
Before connecting the A1 with a power source and switching it on, the A1 must be checked by an Electrically Skilled Person within the meaning of the European harmonized standard EN 50678 (General procedure for verifying the effectiveness of the protective measures of electrical equipment after repair) or under any applicable local equivalent standard.
Once the test has been completed successfully, the process needs to be documented in accordance with the same technical standards.
To document any process according to any standard, it is necessary to demonstrate that the person responsible for checking the installation also demonstrates their knowledge. Of course, it is strictly necessary to sign this document to validate it. It’s common sense. Otherwise, even a child could check and document the heatbed installation.
And for the record: a certificate, in terms of an electrical installation, is a document that verifies that the installation has been carried out in accordance with applicable electrical regulations and standards. This is precisely what BambuLab is requesting in the text.
Anyway, it seems that our little discussion doesn’t carry much weight since it appears that BambuLab is only asking for some photos to be sent to them (thanks @rovex32 ). Therefore, what they wrote has only contributed to creating alarm among the affected users.
I would love to watch someone with zero electronics knowledge, say a typical person that still has a flip phone, put together a voron or prusa with mmu3. Hell I would subscribe to their youtube just to watch and laugh.
Thank your government and all their standards. Bambu is just covering their butts from the inevitable person that somehow does it wrong and burns something up or hurts themselves. You know the people no one would trust to plug in a toaster that decide to do the repair themselves since they get $40 more in rebate.
They do write “a test needs to be conducted by an Electrically Skilled Person” but they also write “unless you yourself are qualified as such an Electrically Skilled Person”.
So I take it it is up to you to decide if you are an “Electrically Skilled Person”.
Just received the “retrofit” email from BL. Interesting statement to presumably cover their a$$e$. BTW, I’m in Canada. To note, images didn’t come through the email so I have no idea what “steps” they want pictures of :
In order to facilitate a timely completion of the heatbed replacement and to minimize any mishandling during the process, we kindly request your assistance in taking photos of the following 3 key steps during the replacement processas exemplified below and sending us these pictures through your original ticket registation. Our technical support team will assist you in verifying the correctness of the installation and provide you with the voucher code.
