A1 underextruding and clicking, but OK in purge tray

After letting my A1 sit idle for a couple of weeks, I can’t get it going again.

Symptom is clicking and under extruding on the first layer, however, extruding is fine in the purge tray (no clicking) and maybe also on subsequent layers.

I have replaced the extruder with new parts, I have tried multiple filaments (including Bambu), multiple nozzles, with and without AMS, different (bambu) build plates… I’m stumped.

Yes the extruder cap and spring are installed correctly.

I have all the auto stuff turn on (bed leveling, etc.) Current firmware.

Any ideas?

Maybe, read this.

Thanks. I looked at that post and wiki and will check it out and report back. Fits my symptoms.

Much better now. I wouldn’t say the screws were “loose” or falling out, but they certainly weren’t tight. They are now and as I said much better.

There is still clicking, but only during printing the little purge blob, at the front of the build plate. That blob is not as much material as it used to be originally, and I still think the first layer might be a little under extruded, but at least I can print now!

Thanks again!

I tried the fix, it worked for a few minutes but went back to the clicking and under extruding.

I cranked down on the four screws pretty aggressively, using the short end of the allen key in the screw an the long end for leverage.

I think the nozzle cleaning function puts a lot of stress on those screw connections, not to mention the bed leveling putting pressure in the Z direction.

The only thing I can suggest, besides making sure the screws are tight, is making sure the nozzle is well seated and the clip is firmly in place.

I’ve got some Loctite purple 222 on order, just to fix this issue.
