A1 Mini & A1 Users: Solved: Screw fell out of toolhead

I’ve seen a few posts here & doing a Google search over the weekend after it happened to me.

I noticed my first layer was bad, tramming the bed didn’t fix it.
I changed the Z-Offset in Bambu Studio, it worked for a few prints.
The Z -Offset would change during the print. The last print I started having extrusion issues. During a calibration a screw fell out of the toolhead. I took the toolhead apart & couldn’t find where the screw came from, I was at a lost & put in a support ticket.

Support sent me this pic, I had no idea that there were screws behind the plate.

This is what I found.

So, for A1 users this is something to check from time to time…maybe every 6 months.
All 4 of my screws were loose, I had no idea as the 3 front screws hold the nozzle tight to the toolhead. The 4 back screws hold the nozzle clip.

I hope this helps someone, it did for me…so thank support for the help.

I think that part should be secure with a adhesive and the screws !

Purple 222 or Blue 242 should work.

Alright, a little update.
I had a small clog about 3 weeks ago. During the removal of the filament, these screws were loose again.
The 222 Threadlocker came in today, so I took the heater off to lock the threads & these damn screws were loose again.
So, since I didn’t have an issue for almost a year; I have to assume that once these screws become loose, they will not ever hold again.
I took the heater & block off & applied the 222 inside the holes, then re-assembled everything again.
I will wait the 24 hour drying time before I print again.

After reading about these issues I already bought a bottle of Loctite 222 so I am ready for the first time it happens. :white_check_mark:

First, OP, thank you. I found a screw floating around on my build plate a few weeks ago, but I’d just changed a nozzle, and assumed it had hitched a ride on the hotend magnet after I couldn’t find where it had come from.
I put it aside, but, of course, couldn’t find it now. :roll_eyes:
As for Bambu…
If you know you have a part that comes loose over time, you need to make it clearly noticeable. It needs to be a regular maintenance notification item just like lubrication. The Wiki does not qualify, people only go there after they have a problem. And, again, if you know this is likely to happen, you need to provide spares.

I just had a giant clog that took me the better part of today to clean out. I did check those 4 screws when I got it apart, but they were all tight. I am going to keep an eye on this. They appeared to be Loctited from the factory, there was the usual Chinesium blue stuff on the screws.

One issue that kind of bugs me, when I was trying to free the hotend from the giant clog I had, i would set the hotend temp manually to get it to heat up, but it would shut off again almost immediately. I ended up pressing hotend temp key, then as soon as the set menu popped up, i would press +30 and ok, then rinse and repeat. If you do it fast enough, you can get the hotend temp up to 200+ degrees to melt the blob. As i said, took me most of the afternoon to get it cleaned up. Also had to heat parts with a heat gun to get the dried PETG out of all the nooks and crannies.

Is there an override so you can set hotend temp and have it stay there until you tell it otherwise?

Thank you. I have had my A1 for 45 days, and checked this, and they were loose.

Haven’t had many failed prints, but a few, and I believe this might very well be the issue.

Bambu needs to put this into the regular maintenance schedule. Such an easy fix to a big problem.

Ya, I didn’t know that until I had a clog myself. I think it’s maybe 10-15 min. I didn’t time it. I do know I had to turn it back on 4-5 times until I was finished.

No, mine would turn off in more like 5 seconds. It was mega annoying trying to get the heater hot enough to melt the blob.

Did you have it in Maintenance Mode…??

Nope. It was just in idle mode with everything shut off, I was using the configure menu to turn on the hotend heater.

What is Maintenance Mode?

what happens if it isn’t these 4 screws and nozzle is still acting like its too low to the plate and doesn’t know what the level did, ending in little to no first layer of the print going down
