Adding Text to the Bottom of a Part in Bambu Studio

I am looking for troubleshooting advice! I have been trying to put text on the bottom of a flat part in Bambu Studio by adding text to the bottom, setting the text height to 0.01 mm and setting the thickness to 2 mm. I have done this successfully on some parts, and other parts it won’t work. Bambu Studio allows me to add the text as a second color to the part (for my X1Carbon printer), but when I slice the part, the text is not there, and only the first color filament is present.
ANy suggestions out there? I am just at a loss since I can do it on some parts, but not others…???
THanks in advance!

I have found the text tool to have a it of a mind of its own. What did help me a lot was to right click the text object and then change its type to a modifier => Always flush.
I also use the Arachne wall generator on text carrying surfaces to ensure that line width is not an issue.

thanks for the advice, I will give that a try!

Be aware that Bambu Studio 2.2.0 have issues with text handling.

I cant flush my test now. From part or modifier etc, all does not work when I slice.

Change the text to a modifier, then change the filament (color) of the modifier. Thats the proper way to add text or logo (svg) that is flush with the surface. Adding text as a separate part is always troublesome.

Thanks for replying. I did the modifier but nothing appear at the preview and the print. That is the frustrating part.

Did you change the color of the modifier? How?

Yes I did that, and even surface text. Does not work. Thanks for replying.

If you upload the 3mf i can take a look at it.

I would expect the slicer to ignore anything that’s an appreciable fraction of the layer height. If you’re printing 0.2mm layers, how can it do a 0.01mm layer of text?

Change the text height to be equal to or slightly more than your layer height and see if that makes a difference. And that being said, you really want the text to be a few layers deep or the underlying background color will bleed through.

Here’s some bottom layer text I made. Layer height was 0.2mm and the text was 3 layers deep, 0.6mm.

Somehow I have used a 0.01 mm layer successfully in the past, so sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I will try using a 0.2 mm text layer height. With your example (thank you for the photo), hwo do you get it to be flush with the surrounding if your layer height is 0.2 mm? Wouldn’t that require support material for the surrounding areas? How did you otherwise get the entire region to be flush and flat if the text height was 0.2 mm extended or proud of the surrounding area?
Thanks!

I do my text in my CAD program. I make the text and “loft” it to the thickness of the layer depth I intend to use. Then I position the text where I want it to be on the model, flush with the surface, and use CSG to do a “subtract”, which leaves a text-shaped pocket in the surface of the model. Then, I export the model and the text, preserving their relative positions to each other, and import them in to Studio choosing “as a single object” when loaded. This puts the text in the pocket, flush with the top surface. But it’s a separate object. Print it right side up or upside down, doesn’t matter. Since the text is a distinct object from the body of the model, the slicer has no confusion trying to understand what I’m asking it to do.

I have a philosophical objection to CAD features being implemented in a slicer. Slicers are for slicing, CAD programs are for creating geometry.

thanks for the suggestion but I can’t see that this works. I change the text type to modifier at which point it turns green on the model. I try changing filament on the selected modified text but it stays green. When I slice the text does not show up at all.

Again if you upload the 3mf i can take a look at it and fix it, and tell you what the issue was.

I am having the same issue(s). I have spent hundreds of hours designing a game and am now trying to print the case. No matter what I try, I cannot get the text (game name) to print flush at the top of the case, which I have positioned facing the plate for the textured finish.

Helo there… I´m having the same issue, can I upload the 3mf and perhaps you can see where te problem is? The model is for a letter box, the text side is the button side of the model, in short words, letter in white, rest on black, first layer start with text an sorrounding of black, thanks in advance.

Here you go. As I mentioned changing it to a modifier will fix any alignment issues with first layer.

@maxim3D Would you mind looking at this file as well? I added text to the bottom of the part in the Bambu slicer, but when I slice it, the text is not there anymore.
Thanks!
