AI generated models flooding the website

Some more hunted down. Six others in the queue.

If you’re wondering how I found these so quick, just search Printmon.

Not wondering, they’re unfortunately easy to find

Do you get points from reports? I just had 90 points, but after those reports it is now 100. (Don’t worry, I’m not inactive on Makerworld, I just cashed in some 40 dollar gift cards.)

No, you don’t get points from reports. You do reports from the goodness of your heart and call to make a community a good place for all. You might’ve gotten points from rewarded activities, such as people downloading your models or you rating profiles of others…

Check your point history and see what they were for. Reports don’t give points, or there’d be hundreds of fake ones.

Thank you for pointing this out! It turns out my model 80s Formula One Racecar by Froggydog10 - MakerWorld is officially a high-quality model! (Sorry, I haven’t had the time to change the cover image. I know it is hideous.)

I have seen it already, thank you. But i have long decided to let go of that here on the forum.
Just think about it. A guy that has thousands of followers, thousands of downloads and makes huge amounts of cash regularly and still feels threatened by my, and others, creativity because of a moon design? Really?! A guy that had cut his patreon price in half because was not getting downloads? I even feel flattered to be honest. Seen his latest designs? Every time that he releases something named “Square” i even give a giggle. And more, it even brings more traffic to my profile. Thank you for that, i guess?
Also, i get several messages everyday from people that are also tired of him and others like him, i get invited to Telegram groups, facebook groups and much more and trust me, he is well known already and again, there is even proof on certain places where people got “scammed” into his patreon and much more. But i try and be cordial and say to those people that i am not interested. People are starting to find more about him, people are starting to not download his and others models. People are getting sick of him.

Me? I am happy because i am myself as always. I made the right choice and ended it here long ago after seeing what kind of person he is and also because it’s bad for my mental health . All i can say is that he should be aware that the internet is not always like heaven and there are redditors/4chan’s that get stuff way too serious and they are true stalkers. One day he is going to have someone at his door and i don’t want to have anything to do with it.

Thanks for the heads up @jaayjeee but my involvement with that guy in this topic is long over. Wish him the best of luck, he will need it more than me

Ah no worries, sorry mate

Thought it was hilarious that they were having the same issues as us, what a plague!

No need to sorry. I’ll keep participating on this topic. Thank you

I think it’s going to be an issue for a lot of platforms. We’re very focused on Makerworld, but those plagues of humanity exist on nearly every platform.

It kind of hit me when I was checking out cults and the page for one of those blites on humanity, and the comments. And you know, that’s a place where people are paying real money for these things, so.

I think it’s becoming a wider spread problem across multiple platforms, and I think people will get tired of this kind of BS.

Speaking of. Because people argued to me about how it’s not a big deal misrepresenting stuff. I was looking on amazon on one of those products where the product is photoshopped into stock images. There were a number of reviews like this one. I don’t think people like being misrepresented. Not everyone may notice, but there are people that make choices based off the product images, and when they misrepresent to such a degree, it’s problematic.

I wanted to point something else out; as I was looking at that reddit thread on the prusa subreddit, I realized there’s a lot of common complaints/issues that we discuses here. When those discussions happen, there’s a certain group that act as if this is just Makerworld, or apologist that try and downplay these issues. It isn’t just this platform, or just us, that take issues with these sorts of things.

Here’s some talk about people spamming the contest on prusa, and how they wish prusa would ban those repeat offender accounts.

People complain about the photo requirements on Makerworld, but here, this is the printable peeps and their views, so this isn’t just a Makerworld trying to stifle the little guy thing.

I think sometimes we get into a bit of a vacuum when we talk about this stuff. Looking at that reddit thread though I think highlights that the issues we talk about isn’t just us, and isn’t just Makerworld.

People are getting frustrated on every platform, with this kind of misleading BS.

The Rise Of The Machine…!!

i bailed on printables long time ago, because i noticed the user base there are not as active as the other websites.

So true. The reality is these other platforms have the same problems AND their point systems are bad lol.

That is what i have been saying the whole time. Unfortunately, both platforms guide themselves by greed and the traffic that is generated from those fake generated images or models. This makes that those who “game” the system get thousands monthly without being penalized and creates a sense of insecurity for all the others that struggle to keep their profiles with correct models.

Although printables takes reports more serious, from my experience. They are quicker and alsopenalize the whole account instead of a single model, in cases where the person repeats the same over and over again.

Makerworld could be “the platform” but it’s not because greed is taking over. Reports are being more and more ignored, spam in the community tab is getting out of hand and so on. It’s their platform, their rules and they are trashed over and over on youtube because of that. But hey, they are the new Apple right? There’s nothing wrong so there is nothing to fix

I completely understand. Most people who speak on this forum are “creators.”

We spend a lot of time and effort, testing and reprinting every single part of our models multiple times. Yet, after uploading, they only get a handful of downloads over several days. Meanwhile, an AI-generated trinket (whose “author” might not even own a 3D printer) can achieve thousands of downloads in a very short time. For a creator, this can easily lead to feelings of imbalance and frustration.

Eventually, I came to terms with it. This is just “user choice,” similar to market economics. AI-generated models are usually non-functional trinkets, accompanied by stunningly rendered images (which are becoming more and more realistic), and they don’t require hardware or precise post-processing. When I first got into 3D printing, I was also obsessed with printing these flashy little trinkets (and giving them to female friends around me ).
Now that I’ve moved past the beginner phase, I only look for models that are creative, highly functional, or feature astonishing mechanical designs. However, it’s undeniable that these small trinkets hold the greatest appeal for the 3D printing beginner community.

Moreover, given the current trends, the rise of AI is unstoppable. MakerLab is constantly rolling out AI-driven creative tools, as highlighted on their webpage: “Create custom models quickly and effortlessly, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out.”

Since we can’t change it, the only option is to adjust our mindset.
