AMS 2 Pro fails to feed slot 1 intermittently past the hub

Got my second AMS 2 Pro unit in, brand new from Bambu, and have been having a constant issue with the AMS jamming at the hub loading slot 1. I have completely torn down the hub to inspect for any clogs, damage, etc. The only thing I can find is that the tension roller is not centered on the filament channel. The side that’s it’s offset to also makes sense as the filament from slot 1 would likely be trying to push the filament into the shoulder of the roller and not down the roller channel. When it stops I can manually push the filament a bit and it will get past the hub and start feeding normally.

Has anyone else paid attention to the alignment of their tension roller and noticed an offset? Is my roller possibly defective? I looked in to possible ways to shim it to the center but came up empty with available shims on hand.

Is this just a warranty replacement at this point?

This is the problem I had today. I took it apart and used a small screwdriver to wedge the idler back to the center and it seems to have worked. I’ll find out for sure tomorrow.

Having the same exact issue with the same exact slot. My Gen 1 AMS has worked flawlessly for years

Same problem here, so it’s probably a defect with a specific batch that all shipped recently. These last few months have been a QC nightmare for me after also having to replace an AP board on my brand new p2s ten days after unboxing.

I just got a brand new AMS 2 Pro and have this exact issue, except it will never feed past the internal hub unit only in slot 1. I’m pretty disappointed, and have a P2S with AMS2 Pro coming next week as well. I hope it doesn’t have the same issue.

I opened a ticket and provided video of it happening. I’ll keep you all posted.

I believe mine is doing the same thing. Is it crushing, or flattening the filament for everyone else too? Mine is doing this in slot 3.

Starting to wonder if I’ve been having this issue without even knowing it. A few weeks ago, I had the issue on one of my AMS 2 Pro slots. Wouldn’t make it out of the back of the AMS from what I recall, and when I finally pulled the spool, there was a small section that was flattened. I assumed it was a bad weld (assuming that’s even a thing?) in the spool from splicing filament together, but now I’m not so sure. Hasn’t happened again, though, and I’ve printed a number of things on the same slot.

Just a quick update here - I emailed Support and they’re sending me out a new internal filament hub to replace the broken one. I’ll update here if that fixes the problem.

So for what it’s worth, Bambu sent me a new internal filament hub, and I just did a test print and things worked perfectly. I’m going to do another longer test tomorrow with multiple colour changes and update here.

did that fix it? I have gotten 3 AMS with this exact issue. I returned the first two and am waiting on a RMA for the third.

Yup! The new internal filament hub did the trick for me. Haven’t had an issue with it since.

I have the same issue and mine started yesterday on my first print. I thought it was filament issue but when switching filaments, I still get the same issue. If I pull back a little on the piece at the injection hole of the filament, it will feed through but once it is finished with that color and is ready to return to the color, it gets hung up again. So frustrating because this is a brand new unit and this happened on the first print.

Had same issue. After taking apart twice and finding nothing. Mover that spool to number4.

Different and heavier spool in 1. Hasn’t happened since. I did same thing pushed on filament and forced it in a few times. Only happened on 1. But its been fine since. Next time ill be looking at alignment if it happens again

My first thought was filament type but swapping initially didn’t help. What I did however, is manually load and unload the filament and for some reason it has been working since after I put everything back together, of course. I’m just going to have to keep eyeing it. Hope you don’t have to deal with this in the future.

Their quality control stinks. I have gotten 3 bad units in a row. I returned the first two and finally decided it would be faster if I fixed it myself. I hate doing that because if they can offload their warranty costs to us they have no incentive to improve. However, they are backordered on the hubs! I sure hope the next shipment of AMS and hubs is good. I’ll never buy direct again. Microcenter has an immediate return and replace policy. That’s vastly better than the online BS they put us through with a ticket and the wait to get a new one.

it is the hub. they had a bad batch.

I just emailed customer support for the EXACT issue in slot 1. If they end up sending me a new gun was it easy to install or was it a total pain? Hopefully that’s all it is and I can fix it easily

It wasn’t that bad at all. The worst part is getting the little rubber gaskets to align and sit properly when re-assembling the unit. Mine never got seated perfectly, but it still works just fine. I just brought home the new X2D and this is my first time with the AMS 2 Pro. I have a feeling my hub has the same issue as you’ve described, fresh out of the box. Filaments are getting stuck inside the hub and not exiting the back of the AMS. I took it all apart and didn’t notice anything at first glance. Put it all back together and ended up with the same issue. I found that if you apply a little pressure on the spring while it’s loading, the filament continues on as normal and I can complete a single-color print with no issues. But now that you showed images of the wheel being offset, I’m going to take it apart again to see if that’s the issue. It makes sense given that the release of tension helped guide it through.
