I just upgraded my A1 with from an AMS Lite an AMS 2 Pro. It’s been working well, so far.
Today, I encountered a problem. I am using Bambu Lab filaments (PLA Basic). A spool of black was getting towards the end, but there was another spool loaded and ready to go. The particular print only uses a small amount of black.
I wasn’t there to see what happened. Bambu Studio reported an error that it couldn’t pull filament from the spool. I checked the AMS. I saw that the filament had been pulled loose from the black tape holding it to the cardboard hub even though there were still six coils (probably more because the coils relaxed once the filament came loose, there is a meter or more) of filament remaining. It was free so clicked that the problem had been resolved.
The AMS started spinning the spool backwards I assume to retract the filament. Since the filament wasn’t attached to the spool, that didn’t do anything. It tried for maybe 10 seconds and the spool was moving pretty fast. It quit, paused and tried again. It repeated this several times (at least 4). It never through another error. I opened the AMS and manually pulled the filament back. There was no more resistance than normal. Once I removed the filament, the print was able to continue. There was no more black in the print.
Is the AMS supposed to pull the filament back using the same motor that pulls the filament out with the spool just taking up the slack like on the AMS Lite, or is it dependent on the spool pulling it out? If so, does that mean my AMS motor is defective?
I there a way to use the remaining filament (more than a meter)?
The spool in question had a piece of black tape maybe 10 by 50 cm that had been holding the filament to the cardboard.The tape was oriented around the circumference of the spool. I have some other empty cardboard hubs. None of them had black tape. Some of then had no tape at all. Some had white tape that went across the spool and wrapped around the edge of the spool to the other side.
