For some reason, this AMS unit is much louder than the one I got over the summer. Specifically when it’s running the motor quickly. It’s this loud for all 4 slots too
Any thoughts?

I’m having the same issue, have you figured out whats causing it and how to fix it?
Sadly I didn’t. I just swapped it with my quieter one that’s isolated from our living spaces.
I can tell it’s somewhere in the gear assembly, but I haven’t had time to troubleshoot it.
I had this noise today, after removing and refitting the inner tray of the AMS. The noise was caused by one of the 2 wires that connect to the rear of the unit, rubbing on the AMS assist motor gear (white nylon gear). I moved the wires out of the way, and the problem is sorted. When the AMS is fully assembled, this gear is very close to where the PTFE tube exits the rear of the machine (just so you know where to look).
Hope this helps,
Mick.
Thank you! I’ll get this checked out tomorrow after my overnight print finishes.
Thank you!
Had this same problem with a new AMS, this fixed it for me.
Thank you, im going to try that!
lol I took the two screws out in the Ams to see underneath. I saw nothing amiss, put it back together and magically it’s not making that sound anymore.
I’ve started having these horrible noises from my couple of months old AMS, before I open up the AMS, is the gear and interfering cable in question in this photo?
Yeah, that’s the spot. I managed to quiet mine a little when I had to reassemble it today.
Cheers, going to have a look tonight.
Well, same result as others I believe, opened it up, had a look at the cables, poked them a bit, couldn’t do much more than that as they are too short and as you rotate the tray back in place there’s no way to keep pushing on them to keep them away from the gear but all back together it’s not screeching like it was and is back to its normal level of loudness.
Wonder for how long though, they should have made those two cables a bit longer and clipped them out of the way so this can’t happen.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but the solution was the same for me. I had two other AMS units that weren’t loud and with my third one it was doing that weird grinding sound. I opened up and found that the two cables that connect to the back of the AMS were twisted up a bit and I’m assuming it wasn’t playing nicely with the gear inside. I unplugged one of the cables (really easy)…untwisted it and replugged it in and reassembled the AMS. The noise went away.
Hope this helps someone else as well and thanks for the suggestions from everybody.
Oh I’m so glad others seem to be having this issue. I have 2 AMS units that are quiet and just got a 3rd for Xmas that makes this same sound across all 4 of the spool locations. Tomorrow morning I will take it apart and see if that fixes the issue.
@Razzemmatazz please mark Not_a_robots post as the solution for other users
Got it. Thanks for the reminder. I might look into printing a part to help hold the wires out of the way to make this a more consistent solution for others in the future.
Just adding that I had the same issue on an AMS shipped on Dec. 23. My other AMS units do not make this noise. After re-seating the inner tray, no difference, but after taping the 2x cables together, the issue was resolved and the AMS Assist Motor sounds relatively the same as my other AMS units. So this may be something that is being “missed” or considered not a concern during Bambu’s QC of the newer AMS that ship.
Also adding to the “bad batch” list it seems we’ve discovered. I received my second AMS unit on Dec 26th - my first AMS was part of my X1C combo from a few months ago. My second unit had the same grinding noise that my first did not. I opened it up and loosely zip tied the two cables together. The grinding noise seems to have gone away after that.
