AMS no longer visible

I got my P1S Combo in mid June. Plugged in, printed 96 hours so far with no issues at all. It’s been great. A breath of fresh air after my Ender 3 :wink: Until last night…

Yesterday, when I went to use my P1S the filaments were not visible in Studio. Sync/Resync did not achieve anything.

I checked the AMS and the 4 white lights were off.

I turned everything off at the wall, rebooted printer and PC and hit Sync. All my filaments showed up and the printer worked fine again. Sync showed my filaments in Studio and I was able to choose one and print fine.

At the end of the print I had a notice saying AMS could not retract the filament, but the print had finished.

Now I have no lights on the AMS and it’s not recognised at all in the printer, Studio or Handy.

Nothing has moved. Nothing has been bumped. It’s on a very stable cabinet.

Even so, I removed the 4 pin and 6 pin cables. Powered off and removed the plug, then reconnected everything carefully.

The AMS still appears to be ‘dead’.

I guess this is a question for support and it could mean a new AMS board - but I’m asking here to see if anyone else has seen similar and has anything I could try to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve?

Quick update - I am following the troubleshooting here;

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/x1/troubleshooting/ams-power-failure

So far, constant 23.8V at the 6 pin connector into the AMS.
Looks like next step is to take the AMS apart and check inside.

Another update!

Followed the troubleshooting. Removing the AMS tray was fiddly (big hands and small connectors). It was hard to connect and power up so the motherboard could be accessed with a multi meter, but I did it. Verified power to all the points in the above guide, then reassembled.

It’s working now. It must have been a loose connector inside the AMS. Odd that it suddenly manifested itself after a couple of months of printing but not being touched. Haven’t even changed filament in the last couple of weeks! Long may it continue working!

At least it’s well documented, easy to follow and I know what the inside of an AMS looks like now…

Anyway, that’s my journey, hopefully it helps someone else in future!
