AMS not recognising correct colour for Bambu filament

My AMS is correctly identifying the correct filament type (PETG-HF), but the colour being reported is grey - it should be yellow. I have tried loading the roll into other positions in the AMS and am getting the same result.

The filament is a genuine refill, bought directly from Bambu, and it did come with the RFID tag attached.

I do have other rolls of filament that are being correctly identified, so it could be a dodgy RFID tag on this particular refill, but just wanted to know if this is affecting anyone else.

It is a bit of a pain in the butt, but I can overcome it by remembering to re-assign the colour

Sorry, I should also mention that I have power-cycled the printer, and made sure that Bambu Studio wasn’t running while adding the spool.

Is this the only spool which isn’t recognised correctly?

Does the issue occur in each of the AMS slots?

Have you waited until the printer has fully completed the start up process before adding a new filament? The AMS can miss or miss determine a spool if you add one during the boot period.

Hi Malc, thanks for the reply.

So far this is the only reel that has had the problem, but it’s my first refill that I have used. I was careful to locate the cardboard roll notch with the locator in the spool.

I have tried the reel in all 4 slots, same result in each of them.

The printer had been on for some time before loading the spool. I did try turning it on/off several times, and did wait a while after startup before loading.

Chalk it up to a one off then unless it happens again.

When you use another refill, make sure the RFID tags (look like ears) are pointed up, so they will be roughly a third up the side of the reusable spool, jammed between the spool and refill.

Chances are you already have, just worth pointing it out as if they are somehow pushed down to the bottom, the readers would t be able to detect them.

Sounds like a manufacturing mixup with the RFID chip. I had one that was dead as a doornail (one of the sample spools that came with the X1). I wouldn’t worry too much about it - the color recognition is a convenience but you will blow through the roll and move on.

I just got my second x1c from the BF sale, and one of its sample spools also had a dead rfid, was a first and I did everything Malc had mentioned. It just wouldn’t read in any of my AMS’s on two printers. Then I went to use it to auto resume some functional prints and lo and behold it read it. There was no rhyme or reason or difference; so yeah I’m chalking it up to freak occurance. I used it up and tossed the rfid chip (I usually keep em to use with elegoo and esun when they’re on sale)

This is happening to me as well. There are 4 reels of bambu brand filament in the AMS and it only picks up the colour of one of them. I’ve tried unloading them all and reloading but it makes no difference.
I’m sending jobs from another room and it’s a bit frustrating. I can remember the order, but it’s a nuisance not having them showing in Bambu Studio as a confirmation.
Are there any other suggested fixes?
