Will the AMS Pro 2, when available for the A1, allow more than one unit to be connected to the A1? Will we be able to print 8 colors or is the Pro2 just replacing the original AMS unit? Would be nice to use at least two on the A1.
I doubt we will get this information anytime soon.
There will be a period of “let them buy new before we let them upgrade their old stuff”.
With the A1 series, how the AMS lite works vs the AMS means how they couple will be important.
They might be pushed directly into the existing print head, one AMS per hole and the AMS 2 gaining some intelligence that means it will not fully retract back into itself unless the next colour comes from the same AMS 2 unit.
It might be limited to two units or even simply one.
There is some interesting potential that I imagine might take a few months before it becomes available.
The store says the A1 compatibility will be in Q3, which means July, August or September, ignoring potential delays.
But do they mean printing compatibility? or just drying? I fear it might just be for drying/monitoring, but not printing.
Nope, I believe it will likely be full compatibility including printing.
This doesn’t mean it will allow more than one though.
It all comes down to how they couple it.
Would be nice if you could have both ams lite and the ams 2
I agree, I mean … there are two ports [and the AMS 2 does have an extension port too].
I would hope not… would be one expensive dryer… probably cheaper (and more useful for storage) to get 4 PolyDryers!
I had read somewhere in the store (I think) that A1 will only support one AMS 2 pro max 4 colors.
considering how similar the machines are to the more expensive versions i imagine they the A1/A1 mini will never get to use more than 4 colours because again; they’re practically identical otherwise outside of a lack of enclosure (and cooling for the electronics when enclosed).
you could make some small arguements about very particular features but at the end of the day the A1/A1 mini is pretty close to the more expensive ones and can even be placed into an enclosure (and have their electronics be properly “vented” to prevent overheating) and print ABS and other noxious-smelling filaments and so they wanna make their money somehow.
any dates when the a1 printer will be updated to allow us to use the ams 2 pro?
Q3 2025 is all they’ve said.
- AMS 2 Pro compatibility with A1/A1 mini printers will be added through an OTA update in Q3 2025.
- The AMS 2 Pro is compatible with X1/P1 series printers for multi-material printing.
Note the 2nd line. I think it might only be compatible for drying and not printing.
Man the mental gymnastics you went through to interpret it like that are wild.
I was more thinking… WTAF? Who would buy the AMS2 Pro to basically only be able to use it as a dryer? The only think I will be curious of though with A1 support will be “will it allow for more than 4 colours?”… After all… the A1 still has it’s own 4 to 1 hub… so 4 AMS2 Pro units could be connected (and what is to stop connecting 4 first gen AMS units at that point?)
i updated my a1 to v 1.05.0.0
after that the ams2 pro and the ams hub lost connectivity and will not power up
i reseated all cable, no fix
i replaced the 24v 4a power supply, no fix
i replaced yhe 4 pin cable, no fix
i replaced the 6pin cable, no fix
there are no lights on either ams like before
why?
what is the issue?
how do i fix this?
i am waiting for the new a1 s/w to get the ams working, but before the latest update , at least the ams would power up
