Hi all,
I have 2 AMS slots which do not load filament when powered first powered up. You can see from the photo their lights do not come on. If I pull and push on the filament so it goes into the feeder more then they load and work fine.
I have replaced the entire first stage feeder but no change. What else should I look at?
thanks
Josh
How much filament are you pushing in to get them to work? If it’s enough to reach the AMS filament hub underneath the AMS (not on the back of the printer), it may be a stuck filament present sensor although I’d think that would throw a code.
You can see the guts of the hub here. The magnets can kick your butt so work on a towel to catch flying bits.
Thanks. As soon as I push say an inch / inch and a half in, the AMS on those 2 feeders works. I was surprised replacing the full feeder unit didn’t solve it.

I would have thought so too based on that. Hopefully you get it figured out. I do find that sometimes the AMS rollers seem locked when I first put a spool in, I can unlock them if I roll it back and forth once or twice. Maybe your rollers are locking up?
Thanks. there are a lot of print Hours with the AMS, will check the rollers as they are still the original ones.

I don’t think it’s the rollers or their bearings, I think it’s the how gearing works. I’ve never explored it but in my head, there is a part that moves to engage and disengage the roller shaft. It you look into the feeder stage you will see a gear that rocks back and forth to do something useful. I don’t know if it reverses or changes speed as I never remember to watch it and have not needed to take it apart. Anyhow, it’s my probably misinformed notion that there is something similar in the rollers and it takes a bit of back and forth to get it to drop out so they spin freely.
I have 1395 hours on mine and it’s always been this way.
Thanks. Have submitted a support ticket and will report back.
