Any reason for the purge tower to have artifacts like this?

The purge tower slice has these odd filament bits sticking out. They tend to curl around things and risk getting back into the print job. Anyone else see this? Normal or a bug?

I dont know why it does that, but my H2D did the same thing the other day with support for PLA new. It started a little before the tower and it drooped down but it worked ok that time. I assumed it was doing that with support material due to adhesion and trying to let it catch on the side of the tower. It was the super slow start of the priming.

I don’t do a ton of multi-color printing, but I don’t think so. I’m running on the lates Beta version and I just set up a quick 2-color test and saw none of the long strings sticking out the side. Initially there are 2 factors exacerbating my case. The most significant one was ooze. The shorter artifacts were built into the slicing (which I’m not seeing currently). Certain filaments will ooze a lot more than others causing longer strings. In a few cases, my wiper was failing and it wasn’t wiping off the ooze then extruding even more then attaching a 3" strand to the tower. As stated, I don’t do a tone of multi-color, so I’ve not taken the time to catalog filament brands or rebuild my wiping system because although worrisome, it never actually caused a problem with a print and seems to no longer be initiated with the code. I’d love to hear from others about their experience.

I am running Bambu Studio Ver 2.8.2.61. The attached picture is a test block I did to use support. As you can see it starts the support filament off the side of the purge tower and does so every time it changes to the support filament. The test is PLA and I tried Support for PLA and PETG HF, makes no difference. It does not do this using plain PLA.

This is intentional because support material sometimes doesn’t adhere properly to the tower or the pressure isn’t right yet. That’s exactly what a purge tower is for - to catch defects. :grin: :+1:

So your tower and slicer is working perfectly. You should be concerned if it doesn’t work that way, for example for support filament.
