I recently found this quite popular creator called Deltaprints, who makes some neat, minimalistic designs. But I started wondering why his thumbnails looked so different from the other photos he posted (The model is the same, but the Thumbnails look WAY much more professional). Do you guys think this is AI generated? And if yes, is that okay on MakerWorld?
They are AI generated. We got into a huge discussion here about it on the forums here, which devolved into a bit of a petty argument amongst people and the designer in question. The forum was closed as it was leading nowhere good.
The Makerworld staff are aware of the issues. If we see changes based on the issues brought up, remains to be seen.
Iām sure people are a bit wary to get into that topic again. I will say though, that itās good that you voiced your thoughts still. Hopefully Makerworld will see this thread, and see that itās something on a number of peopleās minds, even beyond the conversation we had already.
I think this has come up on reddit too.
So, I think itās a larger community wide potential issue that hopefully will get addressed. Iām not sure if thereās a way to make everyone happy on that one though.
I missed that on redditā¦ got to find it
iām not sure that is AI generated, it looks to me as itās renderings, which is not the same thing as it is still the designer that creates them using specialised software or has some skills on the rendering side of fusion
that being said, i personally do not like renderings, it certainly does not match the actual printed objects, on my designs i always photograph the actual prints, itās actually something that i also enjoy doing and am continuously trying to improve at it
That thread almost turned into police quarrels.
I just read the other thread. I guess this topic is closed
It most certainly is. Thereās a number of inconsistencies between the display images and the actual models, that itās obvious he used AI to concept ideas, then modeled off of it. (I donāt feel thereās anything wrong with using AI to help generate concepts; as it can be a useful tool)
If you look at certain things, like these remotes, it becomes a bit more obvious.
Well thatās as real as my lightsaber.
Those are not renders, trust meā¦ You can add objects to render but you cannot tell an object in the render viewport to behave āstrangeā. Check any model of him and you will see ādefectsā on the image. Boxes that have post itās overlapped, remote controls with the buttons not uniform or gibberish text, etc.
Again, a render behaves on the principle of scale. You make a model that is 30cm tall, you render it as it is. Generation, as the name implies, generates something based on your text prompt or what it thinks it would fit in the context. And that brings the problem. You, as the user who will print it, will download and print the model based on that scale shown in the picture, side by side with other common objects. Then reality hits.
He also prints āminiaturesā of the models to show them and photographs them in a white box so there canāt be any scaling issue.
Itās a delicate matterā¦ but still, AI is not good enough (yet) for this kind of things.
Edit: too late, Josh answered already and with pictures.
Nice work. On the models, and the photos. Ahh, I like it with the photos too because it goes further to showcase the sort of quality of print you can get. Thatās the thing that annoys me sometimes with the renders, or ai generated image in this case, that it doesnāt always give me a good idea of what the actual print is like.
Alright, you inspired me. Iām gonna get that softbox I kept dreaming of.
ah youāre right, i did not look at it in detail, as mentioned iām not a fan of renderings, usually i skip past these designs
youāre absolutely right, paying more attention to it reveals the gaps
hahah thank you! youāll not regret getting a softbox, i love them (have a few in different sizes)
Dude, same lol - I have used one at work for years, and honestly never thought to get one for home to use for my own stuff LOL. There are some of them that have different swappable backdrops and such, itād be cool to have a couple of options like a grey, white, black, etc. to contrast the print. Rabbit hole here I come!!
Also just wanted to say - as the person who started that sāshow of a thread, I got pinched by the Bambu Lab police myself, and am digging through my āfor future PLA recyclingā bin to fish out all of my test prints for photo shooting. LOL Hey I asked for it! fair is fair, Iāll be shooting all week
man i just gave a look through that thread, that rabbit hole went deep
Oh I know it, haha. I lost all of my lighting equipment during some life troubles. I had a few strobes, soft boxes, umbrellas, backgrounds setups. Ahh. Iāve been limping along with a single cheap flash. Iāve been shooting through the bin my desiccants came in, to help diffuse the lighting like a soft box. Hey, it works, so.
Ahh, I splurged and got a strobe, a couple of stands, an umbrella, a soft box, and a mount adapter for my other flash I have. I was kind of on the fence, but since you mentioned photography, it pushed me over. So, I blame my now empty wallet on you.
Itās easier that way, rather than taking responsibility for myself, hahaha.
now youāll have to do a video or posting of āhereās the equipment I useā with affiliate links
What happened? Retaliation?
now youāll have to do a video or posting of āhereās the equipment I useā with affiliate links
I see what you did there. But there is no point. Reports come out āDeniedā
hahaha fair enough iāll take the hit but indeed photography gear is on the expensive side, like you i had sold all my photography gear a few years back, but over the last few months the photography bug came back again and iāve been building up my setup, the wallet took a hit, but this will hopefully last me many years now
