Are these thumbnails AI generated?

This is such an idiotic childish response based outside of reality.

AI is being used to deceive, you are saying something designed to be indistinguishable from reality must have consumers distinguish it from reality.

AI when used as such is designed convince people it is something it is not.

It is a confidence trick a con-trick. We don’t say to con-men “you are not acting criminally because you are so good at your job.”

Are you advocating for no consequences for those who manage to lie so convincingly that that average Joe has no way of knowing truth from fiction?

Should deep fakes be legal because they are now indistinguishable from the real people? Of course not.

Blaming the victim is just plain dumb.

Suggesting guardrails are unnecessary is just plain dumb.

Saying no effort should be made to weed out such practices is just plain dumb.

That is my opinion, you have yours.

You appear to believe the deceptive, criminal and disingenuous activities of others should be allowed to disseminate into the wild without checks or balances. I believe you want a dystopian hellscape for our collective futures.

I think laws and rules matter and giving criminals a free pass is utterly moronic.

I dream of a world in which I don’t need to become a detective every time I want to make a purchase. That every time I want to print something, I don’t have to carefully hunt through the reviews to see what the model is actually like.

I dream of a world in which people can be honest with each other and it’s not my responsibility to have to constantly ask “Is this person lying to me?”

I’m sick of constantly having to question the authenticity of everything. And then apologist will sit there and say it’s my responsibility as a consumer to research everything. What about the responsibility of the person selling it to me? Why does it always have to be my responsibility to be the honest one, while they get to swindle their way into my time/wallet?

I remember the first time I purchased something on amazon where the scale of the item was mis-represented. I guess some feel that is my problem though, that it is okay for them to mis-represent the item… I think it’s just a rather bad way to look at things. It’s blaming the victim while allowing the perpetrator to act as bad… Well fine, now I look on everyone with suspicion and that’s the world we created because we want to protect those that misrepresent, that lie, that swindle.

AI or no AI, if the intent is to mislead, then it is wrong. This isnt really about AI

Round Self Watering Design Planter "Dropster" by Deltaprints - MakerWorld the cat on the model pic does not look real.

The render vs photo of the ‘same’ pot display two different aspect ratios.

My guess is that the intent here is not to deceive. A real photo is included. This is more of a “generative expand” situation than full-ai nonsense. I’m “ok” with this, but it personally turns me off because it feels lazy and like fantasy rather than the real world - where we actually live.

What rubs me the wrong way? Is it AI? Is it the intent to mislead? Maybe… but I think there is something fundamental that is bigger than either of these issues.

This is a site for 3D prints. By their very nature they are physically embodied. They exist in that they are matter not just energy & information. 3D printing can be seen to be a celebration of physicality. The site marketing the models ought to honor this.

For this reason alone, only real photos should be allowed.

Had to giggle a bit… someone is on the same train… the exact same train, if you know what i mean

And the name… “Made With Lay3rs”. Every model he has is a rip of another model, pictures included. He should change the name to “Made With liars”

I am not okay with it if the proportions aren’t the same. It might be inspired that image, but that image is not of the actual design.

And the “tear drop” hole on the side doesn’t look right. On the real photo you can see the back of it. In the AI one it’s just a void.

I hear that. I didn’t look closely enough to see that it really doesn’t represent the object faithfully - you’re right.

And much more. The tear has some chamfer to it, the middle line has a small fillet in both faces, the top is also rounded with a pretty high fillet making the pot look more professional. The tear is also not in the same position as the generated picture, making it less appealing and so on…

But hey, people love it, people download it and people print it. He gets rewarded for it, why stop right?

I am aware I am walking a very fine line and I try whenever possible to mix render and real images in the same cover. That is sometime outside my craft (because I am bad) and in that case I do my best to have real pictures in both the main page and profiles. I had some projects lacking in that regard and I put them in private and I will try to fix them in the future.

That said I have no intention to die on this hill and to create issues in the community. In case someone find my stuff not ok, please let’s have a talk

What’s the value of 100% truth here to users that enjoy Deltaprint’s model? Not much.

I’d dare say his models are for the more intelligent that scroll past the first image.

This is like thinking jaywalking is a serious crime and those who do it are morally wrong.

Also good to know that you think your opinion is final, that you have no nuance and that you don’t wish to be challenged but instead validated.

So you’re ok if lied to as long as you remain blissfully unaware?

Can you send me your bank card info? I won’t use it, you can believe me. See at how trustworthy I look.

I fixed your cars breaks. You can believe me. Look at my work.

These toys are safe for your kids. You can believe me, see how cute they look?

You’re going to say “That’s different” and I’ll say “no it’s not” and you’ll say “why” and I’ll reply:

Truth is truth. Whether it’s stated explicitly or implied Truth is Truth. If you’re blissfully ignorant does not change that you are indeed being lied to. If you’re ok with saying someone is “unaware” then that just shows your charachter.

There’s a lot of circumstances in life where we have the option of telling the truth and it setting us back, or telling a lie and getting something in return. I think it’s those times where your character is confronted. I’d rather overcome than take the easy path based on my morals, THE moral of Truth is Truth.

Nobodies hurt right? How sure are you of that? No one may be physically hurt but their time, their filament, and then their thoughts on 3D printing are impacted by that. Sure they may say nothing and move on, but does that really make it ok?

If it is ok, let me know. I own a bridge in NY that I can sell you. It’s in great shape, look at the pic.

Jaywalking is a crime, and it is wrong. Especially if you knowingly do it. The level of crime only pertains to the penalty, not the morality.

Sorry how does a crime, monetary theft via bank cards, correlate to non-exact 3d renders?

So many words yet you said nothing at all regarding the argument.

First of all, it’s not a crime everywhere, that says all you need to know in relation to this rendering issue. Secondly, there was, and still is, an adjective before crime in my sentence that you overlooked perhaps in your snap response.

Correlate in the same way when i spent material that i bought with my money and afterwards felt ripped off after printing a fake product. And the electricity cost that was on me too. And the wasteful product that went to the trash. It’s not theft per se, but it sure is a thin line.

Again, European laws came to the rescue right after AI manipulation was “born”. The “This is AI generated and may not correspond to reality” in small letters serve a purpose and they must be there for that exact reason. So that users don’t feel deceived.

What i can tell from all your posts in this regard is that you are ok with it. You follow the guy and maybe even download and print his models? Fine by me! But not everyone is willing to be ripped off. Some dumb people even praise said models because… yeah, they are fans of the guy and probably even paid for his patreon and even buy referred filaments through his affiliate links, that by the way are also not allowed (who would of knew that such people exist right?)
You like it and are you ok with it? Then cool for you! I am not!

“A story of a man who defended deceive. One day his wife went to the mall and she came home happy as always. That happened for years after years. Everytime she went out, she gets home with a smile on her face. One day that said man found out that his wife was cheating on him, but the wife said that it was ok because not everyone thinks like hime and that she was not deceiving him. And the man lived happily with his wife that obviously was not deceiving him at all. The End…”

Have a great weekend!
