Bambu Lab A1 + AMS 6 color design

So i jus starring with 3D printing with a Bambu printer with a AMS system.
My wife is really in love with Pokemon and she found this models on makerworld: entroisdimensions_figurine | Published - MakerWorld

Some of the figures are with 6 colors. (You have a option to choose the 4 color option but those are just not looking great)

I have search the internet for a solution but i only got the information about changing a filament spool during printing. (The A1 does not let you change a spool of filament since you cant unload it form the menu. You need to hard remove the filament and replace it with another one)

The thing is with these figures that there is multiple layers of multiple colors.
So changing 1 spool of filament is not the solution.

Is there something that i missed as a solution? Or do i need to resell this printer (Just 1 week old) to go for a P1S with a HUB and 2 AMD systems?

Thank you in advanced.

I have done what you need many times for other designers models and for my own.

You can read about it here.

The trick is to benefit from being able to unload filaments from the AMS or AMS lite which are not the one currently being used to print.

It does mean you need models that have a maximum of 4 colours in any one layer, but, can have many more colours within the z-axis.

The bear example I provide is a good one as it is simple to understand.

You look for colours that can be removed as they are not used when you need to utilise a different colour.

In the bear example, the red filament wasn’t used in the top half of the model, so if you make the eyes red, you are simply telling the slicer that whichever slot holds red will be used when it gets to the eyes.

All you need to do is swap the red out its slot and place the white in the same slot.

You make this easy as you add a PAUSE at a layer height between where the red is last used and before the faked red eyes will actually be printed.

As red isn’t being used, it can easily be removed from the printer and the white swapped in, RESUME the print and when it gets to the eyes, the white is used.

I have been looking into this chaning of the filament. But that is not easy with this model for example: Ivysaur Multicolor by entroisdimensions_figurine - MakerWorld

At top there are 5 colors, but all of them are mixed troughout the whole figure.

It can’t be done for all model though, it all depends how it was painted.
Some do by object, some don’t.

As I mentioned it only works where there are a maximum of 4 colours in any layer.

At first glance, the model you indicated should be fine.

I will review it in Bambu Studio shortly to confirm though.

The top part should be easy, the layers around the eyes needs to be confirmed.

I have looked through the model.

It would have been possible if the designer hadn’t started the pupil on the same layer as the green body marking ends.

This single layer blocks you from printing this model with only 4 colours. If not for this layer, you could have printed the model without issues by swapping the green to black and back to green again.

You would have moved the flower to a second plate and printed the character on one build plate and the flower on a second plate.

Yeah, so the only solution to get this right is to have at least a P1S from Bambu with 2x AMS to get 8 colors in one print. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT:

Sold the A1, ordered a P1S with an additional AMS :stuck_out_tongue:

You really wanted that model.

Not only that specific model.
