Bambu Labs keeps adding an A1 printer as default

Studio keeps adding an A1 printer as my default printer and I have an X1C configured and logged in. This causes me a lot of troubles at times because I sometimes don’t notice to change it. It is incessant. I have followed many guides and discussions that say to add an A1 so I have something to delete. I do this and save the configuration but every time I start Studio bloody A1 is added again and is the default. Is it possible to make this annoying behavior go away?

does`nt the 3mf determine printer type when you first open one , with the X1 ?
or should i add in studio

I don’t understand. Are you asking me a question or giving me an answer?

What is 3mf?

.3mf is the project file that Bambu Studio generates and opens.

The project file and printer used to create it , determines a default setting in studio , A1 maybe a default with no file loaded as per the images below

The “default” printer is the printer last used by Studio.

If you are opening one of your own project files (.3mf), saved with your X1C selected, it should open with the X1C specified.

If you are opening a MakerWorld project file, expect it to open with all the settings used by the creator for a successful print, including the printer. 3MF files from other sources will load only the model geometry, with the printer used last in Studio.

Your options with Studio are to review all the settings for the MW project or choose to download the bare STL/CAD file and apply your own settings.

I do think Bambu is being inconsistent by adding a new printer to the list of printer profiles without asking. All other profile changes ask for verification before saving modifications. It is a nuisance to keep deleting profiles for printers we do not have or use.

It’s not really adding a new printer to your list, it’s temporarily listing and setting the printer that was used to create the print profile (.3MF) you’re downloading/opening from Maker World. If you download/open just a model file (.STL etc.) only the printers you initially configured in Bambu Slicer will be listed.

When you open the .3MF file from MW, you’ll also get the AMS filaments the poster had set when they posted the .3MF to MW. I’m constantly having to reset the printer drop down to X1C and resyncing my AMS filaments before printing anything.

I know this is kinda unrelated, but how did you become a mod as it seems all the other mods are Bambu employees.

The backstory can be read here.

That’s what I’m seeing now, but not how I remembered it - maybe I was thinking of an earlier version of Studio. I distinctly remember needing to go to the Printer Selection page to remove printers after loading a MW 3MF. It was one of the reasons I began avoiding MW 3MF files in favor of a STL.

Ahh… this is ignorant newbie confusion. Thank you for explaining.

So now I have another question that kinda deviates from this bit. I calibrated my printer today and it auto saved the profile as an A1 printer. I have an X1C. I don’t have an A1. I assumed this came from the last file unopened now that you explain that. I suspect this is just a name and doesn’t mean anything but it still is confusing to see another another printer model as my configuration. Or am I equally way off base on this too?

The saving grace is that Studio will throw an error if you try to print a part that is sliced for the wrong machine. It’s saved me lots of times.

I didn’t understand what that meant until today. “G-Code”? What does that mean? I eventually figured it out somehow

Gcode is the language what the printer uses as “Instructions” on what to do and where to move. It is used by the majority of CNC machines.

It’s a string of text that tells the printer how fast to go, where to go in the XYZ plane, how much filament it needs to extrude etc. Basically, it’s the printer’s version of english, its language.

G-code (also RS-274) is the most widely used computer numerical control (CNC) and 3D printing programming language.

I wish for a feature/setting in BambuStudio which would default to the printer I actually have. The amount of times I’ve downloaded something, sliced it, etc and had to go back, de-select A1, and reslice… it is VERY annoying.

100%. It takes a while to realize the brains are in the slicer and the printers are actually pretty dumb to understand why it is the way it is. There still could be more done to help the most common user… a single printer at home user. I think that is most common at least.
