Bed Tramming Screws Locked in Place

I want to tram the bed on my P2S because I see the z-axis lead screws working back and forth a lot while printing (not the z-hops). I downloaded the tramming gcode file to the USB and was going to run it, but the WIKI says to first tighten all of the bed screws (except the top right) and then loosen them [sic] midway. But NONE of the bed screws will turn, as if they have been locked in place with permanent loctite. I don’t want to force them, as my printer is only a week old.

Has anyone else seen the screws locked in place like this, and if so, were you able to free them?

Are you trying to fix actual problems, or do you just want to smooth out the movement? You might actually make things worse if you tram the bed the wrong way and end up riding the wrong kind of tram all the way to printer heaven.

Just trying to minimize the movement. Yes, it could get worse, but that’s why I’m asking the experts!

So, essentially, you’re trying to fix something that isn’t actually a problem?

Make sure you collect data both before and after the change, so you can clearly see whether it improves things or makes them worse.

I find it odd that Bambu would permanently fix ALL of the bed leveling screws when the published WIKI docs clearly show they should be adjustable. Maybe it isn’t a problem for me, and it likely saves Bambu a lot of headaches from buyers who don’t research what they’re doing, but I tend to lean toward self maintainability.

I think they are, they may just have been coated with blue thread lock to avoid them getting loose over time but it does not mean they can’t be loosened. On the P2S only the springs keep them set contrarily to H2 series for example where you would tighten 6 screws on the side of the bed to keep the bed fixed to its support so I understand P2S might need more than the springs and use thread lock.

My advise is to not mess with the bed tram unless you have a real issue, you may do more harm than good. The bambu procedure can in addition be very subjective on the level of resistance between bed and nozzle. If you really want to check for an obvious mis-tram, you can run the gcode in the current state without adjusting anything just to have a look at what it is but if it’s just sort of OK, it is definitely OK.

Also, a bed is never totally flat, actually none is so even with a very well trammed bed, it only makes sure the bed is horizontal compared to the XY axes, it does not guarantee (it never) that all points of the bed are level (they are not) so there will be constant Z adjustments during a print (just not on those 4 tram points :slight_smile: )

I reached out to Bambu Support and they confirmed ALL bed leveling screws are fully tightened (fixed?) on the P2S. Okay. So, I guess the WIKI is wrong. Here’s Bambu’s reply:

The tutorial instructs you to first fully tighten the bed screws and then loosen them gently. However, if your bed screws are already fully tightened from the factory (as is the case on the P2S), you can skip this step .P2S Bed Tramming | Bambu Lab Wiki

If you’re still concerned: the movement of the Z-axis lead screws during printing is completely normal . The P2S uses real-time active leveling compensation, so the Z motors continuously adjust based on bed topology data. As long as your print quality is good and the first layer adheres properly , there is no need to perform manual bed tramming .
