Best UPS for H2D

The F900 has a built-in UPS.

Has anyone already tested the “Power Loss Recovery” function of the H2D?

Power outages are common around here. Last week I had 2 outages. I live on the edge of tornado alley so we see high winds a lot.

Hah, good catch :joy:

I guess they can do that on a machine like that. It weighs a few tons and costs even more

To answer the question of why.

Im not looking for a backup, but more prevention. Breaker was popping multiple times a day when trying to run multiple printers. Even with only 2 h2d’s on a 15 amp breaker, I have to bump bed temps up 5c at a time and wait for it in between adjustments. Almost always to 90c. For me, it just allows for more printers and saves me time of standing in front of them or fixing the breaker over and over. Power loss recovery on 2 H2D’s doesnt work so great when you have to slowly heat one bed after the other one is fully up to temp. Just pops the breaker again.

Its this or have the tacky look of running extension chords to other rooms

If you do it 1C at a time instead, it makes a huge difference. I tried it both ways while measuring, and so I’m sure of it. Your cheapest option by far is just to do that. Once you write the g-code preamble, you don’t even have to be directly involved after that.

Sorry this is taking longer than I expected. Got it home from the office today but can barely lift it. Now I need to get it and another printer off my porch before it rains tonite.

Have had two prints experience a brief power loss, both PLA Silk. One occurred during the middle of the night, the next morning I chose to ‘continue’ just to see what happens, ended up with a clearly visible z-line, I will assume due to shrinkage as the part cooled completely, print completed with no other issues. The second occurred during the day and I was able to restart the print almost immediately and it looks to have picked up exactly where it left off, can’t notice any effect on the print. Hope this is an answer to your question Gerrit.

Thanks!
Looks like how the power recovery should work.
Cool down of the part will definitely cause artifacts on the part.

I can imagine that when printing engineering materials in a heated chamber, the end result might suffer even more.

For me a UPS is not worth it, but everyone has to decide for themselves if it’s worth the investment.

Just wanted to put some data out there. The EcoFlow delta 3 plus works perfectly as a UPS during printing operations of low temp filaments. I tested it during a PETG print. I have not yet tested it during high load operations like pre print warm up or during high temp filament printing when the chamber heater is on. I’ll try this out tomorrow night when I have some time.

The delta and the H2D didn’t even flinch when I unplugged the delta from grid power. After I plugged it back into grid power I then enabled grid bypass to test the power cut from grid that way. Same result, no issues.

First test, out of the 3 I can think of, passed. Fingers crossed the other 2 give the same results.

I ordered this Ecoflow the other day [delivers tomorrow] with the intention of using it as a UPS for my H2D. It can support constant 1800W and the H2D [here in the US at least] is limited to ~1500 watts or so IIRC due to 120v - so it should be able to handle the H2D no problem even at max power for ~45 minutes. Once fully warmed up and printing - it should be able to sustain it much longer.

Honestly I was looking at his EcoFlow as a backup for my sump pump in my basement for a while [to give me time to fire up the generator if we lose power in a bad storm, had a basement flood a couple of months ago and lost a BUNCH of stuff] - but it’s going to live upstairs with the printers unless I need it down there.

Checked the Memorial Day sales. Looks like if you’re willing to accept the risk of a refurbished unit, you can pick up a Delta 3 Plus for close to $400.

That’s a good deal, I paid $599 for a brand new unit. $200 is nothing to sneeze at though.

$470 on ebay, and often they are entirely new, and they have the original factory 5 year warranty, in fact on ebay they come with 2 warranties and you can use both.

I still bought a new one for $584, but some of that is due to accounting that about halves the difference between those two prices for me. But certainly consider the ebay refurb one also.

Something to be aware of, lest it catch anyone unaware, is that many of the power stations on amazon are no longer returnable. Ecoflow Delta 3 Pro being but one example. A year ago and before that, this was untrue, but the shift happened last fall and the no-return policy seems to have remained that way. I suspect this may have something to do with how UPS and other carriers view power stations that pack a high number of watt hours. They’re treated as hazardous materials and require special transport.

It only partially explains the issue though, because they could just charge more for making a return to account for the extra transport cost. Instead, they have banished that option completely. Not sure if the same holds true at other places, like Best Buy, as I haven’t looked into it. It might shift the advantage to them, though, because very often some of the power stations will pack some unreported gotcha, and then you’re otherwise left holding the bag.

I just picked up the EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus as well, seems to be working great! First low temp print is running now and tomorrow I’ll throw in some ASA and see how it does with the chamber heater and whatnot. Thanks for turning me on to this unit.

What happened? Did it wake you up with an overload? IMO they could just fix this issue with the wattage draw in a firmware fix. Allow people to select it to draw a lower wattage at the expense of a little more time in heating up the bed. If they want people to run 2-3 of these next to each other they need a dedicated outlet for each of them. Makes sales a little harder. Thank you for testing it out. I plan to get this one or the pro.

$100 off coupon code for EcoFlow. Minimum purchase is $500, so it should work for the delta 3 plus.

If you try it let me know if it worked or not. I’ll update this comment if it gets used.

Nobody has verified it works with high heat filaments. I have read that Ecoflow can go into overload after 1500 watts.

I will verify it right now, it works just fine. The delta 3 plus is rated for 1800w continuous. My H2D pulls 1650w on occasion and usually 1550w during heat up. Not a single issue.
