Can't resume print after filament runs out

P1P with no AMS. When my spool runs out of filament I reload another spool and the printer just freezes up. It will reload but on the app is says “confirm filament is extruded” and the machine display just freezes up. The print pauses but i cant resume anything. It has done it on 2 of my 3 printers so I don’t believe it’s an isolated incident. Any help would be appreciated.

On my X1C no AMS, the load option on the printer display isn’t available once filament runs out so I have to manually heat the nozzle up, manually extrude, then hit resume.

The problem i have is it wont resume, it just sits there. I cant seem to locate anything about this issue anywhere.

I‘ve tried this yesterday on my P1P. I have cutted the filament on spool. As the filament runs out, Bambu Handy shows a Popup message. I heated the nozzle to 250 degree, pushed the filament through the PTFE tube to the toolhead and extruded filament manually until it cames out of the nozzle. Then I moved the toolhead over the nozzle cleaner and back and pressed ‚Resume‘. The P1P waits until the nozzle had the right temperature and resumed the printing without any problems.
All the controling of the printer I have done using the Bambu Handy App.

I was surprised, that is works so flawless. :grinning:

I had problems with resume. I got it to work better using the controls of the display screen on the printer and not the Handy app. I have a P1P

Since I saw the idea with the phone holder for the P1P, I‘m using my old iPhone SE from 2017 with the Bambu Handy App to control the P1P. But yes, all this can be also done on the P1P display control unit. :grinning:

Are you using the ‚load‘ function from the P1P to load the new filament? I‘m not using this function, because it works not like expected. It causes layer shifts and maybe also other malfunctions. So this is the reason I‘m loading the filament manual via heating up the nozzle and extrude filament using the device functions.

Honestly, I don’t remember exactly the sequence, but I know that I followed the prompts but did all of the inputs on the display screen. I’ll have to make a note of exactly what I did next time I swap filaments.

Update: Apparently all you have to do after it pauses from lack of filament is feed the new filament to the hot end and then hit “play” and it heats the extruder and draws the filament in. I do hold a small amount of pressure until it “pulls” it, otherwise i guess i was just overthinking it. Thanks to all who gave me some feedback. I really do love these printers, they have been working flawlessly.

That’s an interessting information. Thanks. :slightly_smiling_face:

I just had my first filament runout on my P1P no AMS. I was a bit worried so was present during the runout. Printer paused and head moved to the chute. I fed in new filament, up’d the nozzle temp to 250, used printer display to manually extrude filament. I either reduced nozzle temp to my printing temp or left it alone (I can’t remember that part but I think I reduced the temp), hit play on the printer display and no issues. Running 01.02.03.00

By the way… as I wanted to test the resume after a filament runout, I had another problem: The filament was anchored to the end of the spool, causing it to stick to the spool.

So the printer could not detect the end of filament, because the filament was there - but could not transported by the extruder. But without real extrusion the P1P printed some layers into the air until I saw the problem. How do you prevent this situation? Are you cutting the piece of filament before using the spool?

I haven’t had one catch so bad that it won’t break lose yet. I have, however, been cutting them when i notice it getting low or I’m afraid it wont be enough. So far the extruder has had enough pull to get them out if I don’t happen to catch it.

When you say you pushed the filament through the tube to the extruder until it came out do you mean you did not use digital controls on the device? Did you use the device controls? did you physically grab & push with no digital in between step?

I would like clarification because I’m concerned physically pushing as opposed to using the motor will cause damage or void warranty. Any bots or admins able to send a link or reference to how to deal with this in any P1S manual or online guide? any video links? Thank you

I pushed the filament by hand until it reaches the extruder and then extruded it via the device controls on the P1P display.
