Hi, I want to change the wall thickness in spiral vase mode at a certain height. I already did this successfully with the same bambu studio version a few days ago using a modifier with a different wall thickness specified. Unfortunately I can’t do this again because I keep getting the error message that vase mode doesn’t work if an object contains more than 1 material. But this is not the case as I use the same filament for object and modifier. I can’t remember what I did differently last time. Any idea? It’s just a simple cube in vase mode with a modifier using a different wall thickness…
Thanks!
Manual vase mode:
Wall line count - 1
Top surface layers - 0
Infill - 0
For this purpose, the height range modifier is more adequate.
Thanks JayZay, “manual vase mode” would work. BUT then the clean outer surface of vase mode is gone.
Yesterday I got successfully a vase mode print of an object with 1 mm and 0.4 mm wall thickness using a modifier for the thickness. No slicer complaints. Today it doesn’t work any more. I don’t know what I did differently yesterday…
After some more experimenting I managed again to get a print in vase mode with different wall thickness at different heights. Seems to be important which properties to apply for plate, global and the objects including the modifier. Maybe the order is important as well. I don’t see the principle behind that but at least I can change line width in vase mode again…
Hi Gudo,
Can you please share a successful case, even if it isn’t clear what makes it work? I wasn’t aware of this possibility, but I would love to learn more.
TY
Hi JayZay,
I published it as a model in Makerworld - my first model
You can find it as “Tiny box with lid vase mode” or here
Hope this helps. Otherwise just ask…
Cheers, Gudo
TY for sharing.
I will download it and check it out.
I’m curious about what makes it work.
Hi, can you explain more on how to you manage to make it work, because it still doesn’t let me add a modifier till now.
Did you by chance change the material selection away from “default?” That might explain the error. Or vice versa, maybe it needs explicitly the same selection as the main object setting.
Hi, that is still a mystery to me.I played around with with the settings of global and objects when I created the tiny box. Got this “more than 1 material not allowed in vase mode” error all the time (there is only 1 material). But at some point it worked and i can’t tell in which order I changed the wall thickness of global and the object height modifier and when I added the modifier - before or after changing the global settings.
Summary: yes, you can change the wall thickness of object parts in vase mode using modifiers. but it is unclear how to proceed. Today I tried it again for 10 minutes without success … Maybe it is a bug in bambu studio?
I experimented a little more. Now I found out how it works:
- start bambu studio with default settings
- create 2 primitives (!) on the plate, 2 cubes, move them apart, scale the 2nd one e.g. to 40 mm
- go to the object settings, to the plate object (!): there you set the vase mode and print by object
- In the object settings of the 2nd cube: add a height modifier, e.g. 20 - 40 mm
- Object settings of the 2nd cube: set line width to 1 mm
- Object settings of the modifier: set line width to 0.5 mm
This works for me and you can slice and print it.
Without the second useless cube it doesn’t work, no idea why.
It worked! Thank you so much for your time trying to figure it out, this will help me so much as a small business owner.
