Would like to have the ability to choose a specific filament for infill. The best way to implement this would be for it to work EXACTLY like it does for supports. Just have a drop down box in the global/object settings where you can select a different filament for the infill, just like with supports you can choose a specific infill for base/interface.
I’m not sure if you can do that, but you can purge filaments into the supports. This helps eliminate wasted filaments when changing colors
Yes I’m aware you can purge filament into support and into infill, but that is not what I’m talking about. With purge to support/infill there is really no control over it. If you switch from blue to red, some of the infill will end up blue, some red, and some purple. The outcome would be even more unpredictable with different materials. I would like the feature as i described it so you could have control over it. The infill would only be 100% the filament you chose, and the walls would only be 100% the filament you chose.
The infill turns out to be different colors because it blends. If you do red to white, you will get a little bit of pink. I don’t think you can make the infill a certain color. I think you can only control the outside
You can fake it.
It will take a long time to print given all the filament swaps.
A task best suited for the H2D.
I’d welcome that very much. I have plenty of cheap ugly filament or leftoevers that I’d gladly automatically dump into infill.
I’d love to be able to set infill as well (or at least exclude filaments from being used as infill).
I had a spool with some leftover filament that was going to be pretty tight for the print I did. Then after a little while the print failed and I had to tweak quite a bit of settings for the amount of filament to be sufficient. I’d love for a way to exclude filament from being used as infill, so that I can manage the remaining filament on my spools better.
As much as we need this, I think it’d be a thing that only the H2D could do because of how many filament switches would be needed.
Well, technically all AMS equipped printers could do it, just the H2D can do it efficiently.
I’ve got a use case where I have an iridescent filament that looks 1000% better when it’s printed in a thin layer and then backed with black filament. At the moment I can only do this on a flat layer basis - but if I could print the “outside” of a model in the iridescent stuff and infill with black I’d do this in a heartbeat, even if it meant using a fair bit more of it.
You can
This is just a cylinder, assigned red filament, with a slightly smaller cylinder inside it, assigned pink filament. Do this with your geometry and youll have your exact solution. You can even tell the interior object that it has 0 walls so it will just be “infill pattern”
If the cylindrer isn’t big and you will be using a single nozzle printer, the purges will use more filament than the infill. Make your calculations.
I would print two different cylinders, one by one, and then insert one in another.
You will not waste filament, you will be using very little quantity of the iridescent one and the print will be fast.
Using vase mode for the external cylinder will get you a perfect finish.
Yes! I just got the H2D and loving it! But I was as well hoping that I could test out using TPU as the infill for a project I’m working on (one of the main reasons I got this printer) to find we are not yet able to select this option.
I have a feeling we will so and just have to wait and request it more. We haven’t even seen all that 2 head can do! Thank you Bambu Lab for this printer!
Nice! TPU for infill is a great idea, I hope they add that.
Yes, but this is a work-around. And a bit more work for more complex models. I’d much rather it just be a selectable option as per the original post ![]()
I need this as I am having issues with top layers being darkened becuase they’re isn’t enough top layers of paint. These are purchased files that I have already changed the painted top layers but still having issues. allowing me to select white infill prior to the top painted layers would solve this issue for me.
My experimental use case is glow in the dark infill inside a translucent shell. I had the same thought as @Bullocks, nested objects, but designating an infill filament would be easier.
I have so many use cases for this feature. It might change filament every layer, but it will still work. Lots of my prints already do.
This would be so useful esp. when mixing colors in print, today when I print a light + dark color model, the dark color often (and inconsistently) goes into filament, causing visible (and inconsistent) stripes through the lighter color…
And it should be so simple to add, I don’t get it…
Since Studio 2.4, you can.

But it is a bit hidden. You need to select the object in the build tree, then go to “Others” and find it in the “Advanced” settings.

Thanks, found it - one needs to have “developer options” enabled. Wonder what else I missed.
Anyway, it seems to work but ONLY for single-color objects, on multi-color it seems to have zero effect. Boo. Maybe one day.
