Hi,
Im currently printing a simple sign, but having problems when slicing causing the job to take longer.
The sign is designed in fusion, 3mm thick, with a 0.4mm text and border height. Printing 0.2mm layer height. I want to simply print in white until 3mm, then the border and text are 0.4mm thick and in red. Sounds simple but I’ve got a couple of questions
- On layer 11, I get the border shape and text outline in white, which seems to be taking unnecessary time. In layer 12 it keeps the border outline but covers the text up
- On layer 13 I get some red, and some white. The wall thickness is at 2, but there 8 white wall loops?
- On layer 15 I get more white layers of text, before layer 16 starts the red
Can anyone explain this?
In my head it should just print all white until layer 15 (3mm thick) and then print the last 2 layers in red to end up with 0.4mm text and border height?

i don’t understand the project completelly. but i believe that what is happening is the print is building the text outline. same thing would happen even if you used one color, the text design starts at an earlier layer. has to do with the fill of the completed layer, vs the text (whih will be higher)
switch to single color, and watch the preview, will probably see the same thing.

There are maybe a couple factors at play here.
Assuming the text is only on the top of the model, the text “artifacts” below that are (likely) actually a Studio bug (see 2906 & 10082). If the text is a separate part of your model (highly likely coming from Fusion), then one way to work around that may be to enable Strength → Top/bottom shells → Interface Shells (I think this requires “Advanced” mode to be enabled, or perhaps even “Develop” mode in settings).
As for color, how are you applying the color to the model? Ideally you could apply color as filaments directly to parts of the model, not painting it. Painting can produce some strange “effects,” especially on thinner models. When importing 3MF or OBJ formats, Studio likes to apply painting for you (the color mapping dialog), which is often not what you want (you can hit Cancel on the dialog to skip the painting).
If you could post your project, or some version that exhibits the same issue, it would be easier to provide more specific ideas.

Yes I believe you are right. It does do the same thing on single color.
Is there no alternative to this?
As you can see here, its written the text in white, now its filling all around in the same layer, wasting so much time.

This setting doesnt seem to make any difference.
The text has been extruded from the main sign body in fusion, I have tried both as “new Body”, or “join”, both have the same outcome.
Attached is the project, I have tried painting, and ask you say its awkward. I have just added a color change at layer 16, but as you’ll see, still has the same issue on layer 11. I could understand if it carried on this way, but on layers 13 and 14, it continues as id expect…

i don’t think it is “wasting time”, in its mind. since the text is going to be higher (I believe), it has to build the base for the text. at least in my understanding. I profess lack of understanding of bambu’s “black box” thought process, I jus print, and try to adjust parameters !

Yes the layer 11 change is pretty odd. And it does that for the border also. And indeed removing the color change also has no effect. I’ve not seen that before.
I wonder if it’s some “issue” with the model, or how Studio is tessellating (converting) the STEP solid into a mesh. Have you tried exporting from Fusion in a mesh format (“Save as Mesh” not File → Export)? I don’t know why it would do that if the text/border don’t penetrate the base, but it’s Studio so anything is possible… 
Personally in Fusion I’d make the red parts be separate bodies. Then r-click the parent component, and Save as Mesh (STL, to avoid further Studio shenanigans with color later). Import the STL into Studio, r-click and Split → to parts. Then assign filament color directly to the parts.
Fusion will want to make separate bodies for each letter of the text… which works but can be annoying to manage. One trick I learned is to place all the text onto a very thin “base” plate, thinner than any layer height you may use, like 0.01mm. Then extrude the text and join to that base… this way there’s just one body for all the text, but the thin base plate is ignored in the slicer because it is too thin to print. Same issue when exporting as a Mesh.
