So I have the H2D Laser Combo, I will likely use the laser occasionally, but not every day, but I honestly HATE the green door, I want to SEE my print, and verify the right color or filament etc. is working. Additionally the LED color bar on the build plate is impossible to discern any color. They went to all the trouble of putting some of the best interior lighting of any 3D printer I’ve ever used in this thing, and I can’t see it unless the door is wide open.
So the standard glass door is only $44, but does anyone know if you can actually swap them and the sensors will or won’t allow function?
I can imagine there being some magnet position or quantity difference to tell the printer which door you have, that would be great, and honestly I would be totally fine swapping the door, screws and all, when I want to use the laser, BUT I also see Bambu sells the green glasses. I would murder for a BIQU or other metal quick-swap kit, that let me pull a latch and quick release the door hinge so I could swap the green for the glass.
Todays question how to swap the save to the unsafe glas . tomorrows question how to sue bambulab for partitional blindness … Sry but there is a reason for all the safety features if you want to swap it and hurt yourself do it but dont expect help from us doing such thing .
The green door makes it look like the chamber is smokey too. Ill just deal with it, but I would like to get a glass door and install laser film on it. I imagine it would be easier to see through and not flimsy.
@Patz_AT alot of lasers dont even come with covers. Also, im sure theres some fine print that we agreed to that says Bambu is not liable. They sell laser glasses for a printer that pauses when you open the door. Im sure they saw this coming.
For sure people will buy the 2 euro version from aliexpress without knowing if it works or not and will damage ther eyes . Liable or not people will try
I have a regular door waiting to swap onto mine when it arrives. Same reasons as you, and I like the solid feel of the glass vs plastic. It’s a few screws, I’ll swap it back for occasional laser use when I install the head.
I have the regular non-laser version and the difference between looking through the glass of the X1C to the H2D is like a dimly lit alley and a fully lit basketball stadium. It’s one of the best things about it.
I have swapped my front door for a regular one already. Much easier to see what’s going on. 100% worth it if you won’t be using the laser often.
For everyone who is worried about my vision, I won’t be using the laser. “But Qjo, why did you spend all that money on the laser version if you’re not going to use it?” Well, I didn’t spend a dime on it. It was free. I won the printer in the golden ticket contest back in early 2024. I got the laser version so I could have the cutting module and not have to mess with installing the Birds Eye cam. Why get a lesser version than the one I want right?
Anyway, I still have my green door and I have it stored with the E-stop button. It would be pretty hard to grab the E-stop button and not realize I need to also put the green door on if I ever decided I did want to laser something.
I don’t think that’s the case, I believe it’s using the same door sensor as everything else. The panels are just plastic or glass, seemingly no hardware in them except magnets
As long as the owner can accept it is his sole responsibilty and swapping safety panels , glass or green plastic could possibily void any warranty, what could the problem be ?
There is a difference in the doors though. The laser window has 2 magnets and the glass door only has 1. It would be interesting to see if they did that so you couldn’t use the laser without the green door.
Ohhhh, so simple but smart. Yeah that makes sense, Dr Tao recently said they had a couple youtubers trying to trick the sensor to get a picture of the laser but they couldn’t, so that makes sense
A labourious idea , personally i believe saftey should be the uppermost thought and really why to fix something that isnt broke … just for looks , its not like anyone stands over their printer anyway , with all those cameras to view
All the efforts to swap out and essentially defeat laser safety protections are pretty much certain to result in eye injuries. Even with all the laser safety precautions in place, these are high power lasers and there could be injuries anyway.
The one thing I ask anyone who is going to use the laser option, whatever you do, close and lock the door to your printers when they are in operation and make sure family members and workers understand they never open the door without explicit permission. Put a big sign on the door stating that.
If somebody blinds themself, that’s one thing. Blinding others is a different matter.
I have had laser safety training and the injuries are horrific. Have a look at laser-burned retinas sometime and see what I mean. Don’t do that to children, spouses, workers, or animals. Don’t do it to yourself, either. There aren’t replacement eyes.
