Can you provide some insights on how ‘Popular Models’ are determined? There must be significant factors beyond quantitative metrics like downloads, prints, likes, and collections, right?
Hi, thanks for asking. If you are referring to the selection of featured models, please take a look at our Featured Model Guideline: Featured Model Guidelines
If you are referring to other models being selected, please let us know.
These models come from a pool suggested by our system whereas our operation team selects the final popular models. Deciding factors for these models range from popularity, creativity and printability to whether the model incorporates features such as MakerLab or BOM lists.
Is this still true that the ‘popular models’ are chosen by the operations team?
I just saw this on my front page, with this bottom right ‘popular model’
Clicking it lead to this model that was uploaded about 2 months ago with 0 downloads and 0 prints:
So it seems very unlikely that this model was manually chosen, but I’m not sure how it could be automatically chosen too as it definitely doesn’t hit any metrics for popularity because it has 0 downloads at all. It also doesn’t have print profile either, which I’d imagine is a negative in any popularity metrics.
Hi Kit_Crafters,
This model was mistakenly placed on MakerWorld’s fron tpage and should not have been placed there.
We apologize for this mistaken, and thanks for your understanding.
That ‘model’ is allowed to be in the exclusive program, but highly detailed coasters can’t be (as an example).
It is nuts how these things work.
Don’t exclusives require print profile which that model doesn’t have?
Not only a print profile but one from the original uploader. However that is one of the several Exclusive rules that gets ignored depending on how big the model is in popularity. This one will probably be removed though.
