I must be doing something wrong so please let me know.
I have a project with 12 plates that I have been printing on both my H2S and H2C so alternating between the two.
When swapping from one printer to the other on Bambu Studio, it keeps launching all my parts off the plates into a corner not on a plate at all. So I have to fully re-arrange again, which is massively frustrating.
It seems like a huge flaw unless I am missing a setting?
In other words, save one 3mf file per printer so that you are not switching between different bed sizes. Annoying but the only work around currently. I’ve posted a request for improvement to bambu studio, with no response
Currently when I open .3mf files from Makerworld for my H2D, +90% of those files are for a smaller size bed, so luckily I see the parts getting redistributed on the plate and all goes well. I would expect the same to happen when the OP switches to the larger printer.
When switching back to a smaller printer, you might get parts falling off the build plate. I don’t see any way to work around that.
Therefore a separate .3mf per printer is the simplest and fastest solution.
Managing multiple bed layouts in one file, is only making it more complex.
If you slice all plates and send it to the printer, save your .3mf file, rearrange the parts for the other printer and send all plates to that printer also, you can pick the desired plates from the printer UI when you need them.

I would have thought the part would just “stick” to the plate, regardless of it if doesn’t fit. Almost like the lock button would lock it to the plate even if it goes over the edges (for the user to then resize, mvoe around at their leisure)
That’s because you are asking the software to know what you are doing (printing with 2 different printers and plate sizes) and assuming it realizes this as it switches back and forth between the printers.
It doesn’t work that way. It expects you to focus on one job at a time, slice one job at a time, and print one job at a time.
BUT!!! There is an EASY way to acheive what you are asking for.
Open the project with all 12 plates in the H2C. Get the plates filled how you want them, your settings, your filaments, etc., and save it as a project. Now do the same exact thing for the H2S with the same exact 12 plates etc.
Now as you open the project you can print any plate you like from that project designed exactly for that printer and saved for that particular printer to begin with.
There is also, making it even easier, a setting to uncheck in the “preferences / general settings” tab of bambu studios “keep only one bambu studio instance”. Uncheck that and now you can have both printers with their coresponding 12 plate projects that you saved open at the same time and simply slice whatever plate you want for both at your leisure.
at the very least, I would expect my layout to not get reshuffled thus loosing all my layout work that I previously did. I have printers with different build plates and sometimes I accidentally click on a printer that has a different sized build plate and all my work gets wasted. It is a real workflow pain! I consider this a bug when software makes it difficult to use for a user. It would take no effort on Bambu Studio to just not reshuffle everything, letting the user make the appropriate “fix” when the build size goes from big to small.
That’s why the “save” button exists. Shuffle your stuff around, your settings, your printer, and then save your project.
Every single time you open that project it will be saved exactly how you like it.
You can’t expect the software to maintain a plate full of stuff in the same exact orientation when you just told the software you no longer care about that plate and went to something else a completely different size and / or printer can you?
It’s not hard not to mess up your work by saving it.
Just seems absolutely wild to have that as a workaround as you’re still having to replicate the work twice.
Having it locked to a plate seems way more easier to manage to me.
A prime example is that when I rearranged all of my plates, it was confusing as to which part went to each plate (the model was of a shoe split up into loads of plates) all of which were relatively similar looking for the main body of the shoe.
So I would have to match the plates. If they were locked to the plate regardless of size it would make things so much easier! I’m sure that can’t be a hard ask.
Yeah.. but the software is only as good as what it thinks you are doing and what you are telling it to do.
Another workaround could be to setup all your plates. Select all the objects.. Control C to copy them all. Go to the other machine, setup how many plates you need and Control V to paste them.
So the only thing you are worried about is the location of the parts on the plate? And not which filaments are assigned to a dual/single nozzle machine?
And not worry about settings that differ per machine?
Next question is: I also expect it to remember the installed filaments, etc.
The solution is already mentioned. Just save 2 projects and everything stays with the printer. Start with the smallest, so your bigger printer is not kicking parts of the plate.
Yeah it’s a good work around, still a bit of a bind having to go into two different projects and cross each one off on both once you have printed. That wouldn’t slide with my work methodology you would be fired before you even suggested that as a “fix”.
Just seems odd that Bambu are well aware that people would have different sized printers, with wanting to print multiple parts on them for a project so transitioning between the two should be IM (and obviously a few others hence the other threads) O, seamless.
I’d rather Bambu work on both i’m sure there’s more than one team within software dev.
But you don’t see you are the one doing the workaround here.
You put all your parts on plates for a specific printer for a specific plate., and you are working around the fact that’s not what you want to actually do.
So instead of making 2 projects separated out of exactly what you are wanting to do with corresponding 2 different sized build plates and 2 different printers with those plates that you want to print, you are expecting the software to think someone would actually go this route in the 1st place without that being the starting point which is 99% of 3d printing / slicing.
I will use what I did the other night for example, I have a model of a shoe which is huge and I had to split it into 9 pieces. Each piece was just touching on the maximum size for the h2c.
I split that part up on a project and expected to keep within that same project and alternate between the 2 printers (h2s and h2c).
Would someone else’s work flow to be do than and then copy and paste each one onto a different project? Seems mad that it’s to be done like that if so. With all kind of chances or repeating / missing parts should I have had 50 or so pieces?
No.. What is normally the case is you would put what you want to print on printer #1’s plates - Say it’s an H2C. So you create a project of everything you want to print with the H2C. Load it’s plates accordingly and get to printing.
Now if you decide you want to print with an H2D, for instance, you would do the same thing, loading up the plates exactly how you want to print them for the printer / plates you have chosen. Then start printing.
Since there’s 2 different printers and 2 different plates being printed, with 2 separate plates worth of objects.
I totally understand what you are wanting to do, but the software really wasn’t designed to take what should be in the place of 2 separate projects and be able to be the same across 2 printers models and build volumes as one project.
