I’m going to add something here…
I received my printer today with firmware 1.5. Downloaded BLStudio and the handy app. Updated the firmware and there is an option to downgrade the firmware. However I have no issues at all so far.
Are you saying with certainty that you upgraded all the way to 1.7.1 and still have the option to roll back to 1.7.0? No one else has seemingly seen that so would be helpful to confirm.
You are right. The printer went to 1.7.01.00. Although there is an option to downgrade, if I try it says there is no content.
Tom
Looks like the call to open support ticket and ask for downgrades has worked! congrats!
For me here in Germany there is no content when clicking on i want to go back to another version.
I tried that and NO Luck
Just found this Rooted: The Good the Bad and Freedom of Choice (bambulab.com) hopefully soon.
Oh look, the list grew of people complaining since I was last here. It wasn’t just me. You’re just a freaking BL fanboy. And why would I complain if I was able to downgrade before they remove the option. The answer is easy. The community. I care because of the community. If they do it to one of us, they will do it to us all eventually and right now everyone is having this problem. I did notice that there is the option to downgrade again, so I hope everybody has this option but clearly they changed the downgrades so that you will not be able to changed to a different firmware if you want.
You clearly didn’t read the link above your post.
In short, we will provide a one-way ticket for customers to choose between Bambu Lab OEM firmware and third-party firmware.
It still does not negate the fact that they could have said… “ Dear BL community. We have come across somebody that has made a secondary firmware that is outside the scope of our vision, and more importantly, our protection of our valued customers. We will be approaching, said third-party creators of this firmware to have a discussion about safety. For a little bit of time we will be removing the ability to downgrade even though we can see that from the upgrade there has been issues with layer adhesion and a few other issues. We deeply regret having to do it this way, but we want to move forward steadily, so please hang in there while we get everything tidied up. Rest assured we are working on this day and night.”.
This was my point, you don’t just remove stuff and remove the ability for people to downgrade to make sure their machines are working properly because you are afraid of another firmware. You definitely don’t do these things without informing your clients, considering the amount of money that some of us have paid. I have more than one machine and I’m a huge fan, but this move pissed me off because it shut down my production and therefore I lost money with no end in sight. In your responses to me and other people that I’ve seen you respond to on this forum, you’re dismissive when it comes to issues. How about you try and see things from other peoples perspective instead of dismissing them. There was and still is layer adhesion issues for many users. Hopefully the fact that they are able to downgrade now (at least I am) will deal with the issues they were having.
Telling me that I’m being salty, just for the sake of being salty is freaking rude. I literally lost about $4,000 from not being able to print parts and waiting on this issue to get resolved as well as working with Nick through tech-support (Nick is the man!!). I finally was able to just downgrade before they remove the option. I wonder if you would be pissed and salty if you lost money?
If you don’t want someone pissed, maybe don’t be so dismissive and throw out rude comments? People have the right to be pissed off when companies do ■■■■ like this, especially when we are huge fans of the company.
Good letter from the Bambu team as well. To me so far, the overall solution is fair. Hopefully for people that switch over to “R” Can switch back over to BL firmware but to me it is fair for them to lose support and warranty. I’ve ruined a few printers myself tinkering with Marlin, but I’ve also been able to fix a bunch of printers as well.
To me, BL should give us the ability to at least adjust the Z offset. If I was able to adjust the Z offset I would not have had a problem and production would’ve persisted. Basically “babysteps”. I’m hoping this can be an option in the future because the firmware screwed me up, and I had no ability to fix it myself, even though I knew how to fix it.
Ya. I am not patching to 1.7.2 from 1.7.1 until they are a couple more FW revisions beyond and then only patching below the latest. I don’t want to be stuck after a one-way patch then having to stop using the printer out of frustration.
I made the 1.7.0 to 1.71 patch and relied on the ability to do a typical FW downgrade. I have 200 hours on this printer, and things have been mostly smooth. I am noticing changes in print quality and keep getting the 'accelerometer disconnected. I am going through the steps on the wiki so we can see. I haven’t opened a support ticket because, well, all over the internet, the talk is about how it is so bad. If I open a ticket, get a copy and paste a response, and given the run-around, I’ll lose it. I want to avoid dealing with something like that right now, so we’ll see if the printer slowly degrades.
My son’s school was going to buy a load of these printers. I pointed them to this and Reddit’s forum. They put the purchase on hold until next year unless they go to another brand. Going through the current issues and dealing with support differs from why the school is there.
This is exactly why Bambu released the X1E and only sell it through distributors who then handle support.
Now their regular support should be better, but if you need enterprise level support, they have at least now provided a decent option.
On the 01.07.02.00, it seems to be a solid update from 01.07.01.00 and fixes a number of the bugs introduced in that version.
If you’re on an older version and it’s working fine for you then personally I’m of the opinion that you probably shouldn’t upgrade though - I like to give updates a few months before considering them for install unless there’s a fix for an issue I’ve noticed.
