I think users should have the ability to flag profiles on their own models so they are hidden until MakerWorld staff can have a look at it. Similar to the way it works on the forums here.
I saw a system message (i think it was a system message) yesterday that said something like there will be longer wait times for redemption requests and support tickets for the next week due to Chinese new year.
This morning, I see that someone has uploaded an A1 Mini profile to my Phone Bed Wireless Charger model.
No print image, but that is the least of my concerns. You’ll notice the A1 Mini profile takes significantly less time than my profile. That’s because that model isn’t compatible with the A1 mini. There are two parts that are 195mm long, and impossible to print on the mini. This user just deleted those parts from their profile, along with half the mattress. So if anyone prints that profile, they will eventually find out they’re missing pieces that cannot be printed with their machine.
It would be nice if I could flag that profile until staff are able to deal with it. I feel like it could prevent users from wasting their time and effort on bad profiles.
Your concerns are what we, creators, have been asking for a long time. Until now they didn’t hear us or let us take control of our model, our way to profile them so that they can be printed as we intended. After all, the creator should have a word to say about it.
I hope they hear you because me?! They didn’t! As many others like me. We need big “number” creators to do these kind of requests so that they can be heard.
I fully agree with what you said and even today i shared the same concerns about these following weeks and the report feature.
Made a model to accommodate one part of their Makers supply parts. It took a long and tiring time to adjust every little detail so that everything would fit.
“Finally Perfect! I can now upload it with this very well tuned profile that most of the users will enjoy and everything will fit…”
Not even 1 week later someone decided, just for fun(?) to create a profile with the complete model reduced to 70%. No harm done right? Right?!
-Wrong! Defeated the purpose of the model, that was to accommodate that specific part. Who had bought those makersupply parts would end up with a printed model that would not work as intended, period!
After trying it myself i decided to report it. A few days passed and nothing. Reported again with pictures showing the problem. Nothing. A week later did the same and even mentioned that the parts sold by makerworld would not fit in that printed model/profile. NOTHING!!!
That profile had a few dozen prints (fortunately!) and people started complaining as if it was my fault. It wasn’t! And yet it was because since i created the model, i would have to have control over it in the eyes of those who downloaded and printed such profile that had “faster and easy” in the name. A newcomer would not know and would think “hell yeah, it’s faster, why not?”.
It took them weeks until the profile was gone. Because that user removed it after backlash!
Where is this fair to us, creators?
That’s it, that’s the best example i can give. So yes, i want more control over my model and on how it should be printed. Or else i would upload the STL file and let users deal with it, like other platforms do.
Somebody did something similar with one of my models. Left out a part and I was getting messaged asking where it was. Took me a while to figure out what was going on.
Maybe we should have the ability to remove peoples print profiles from our own pages?
