Filament broken off in AMS Motor at 4-1 junction

Hey Bambu Community,

Against my better judgement, I decided to use a filament that had become quite brittle. I thought if I dried it first that it would become usable; mistakes were made.

The filament ended up snapping at many spots, one of which is at the 4 to 1 junction inside the AMS unit (seen here pulled apart):

What is my best option to get this filament out of here? (it’s blocking the other 3 inlets) What I’ve tried so far:

  • pushing another filament into it (won’t budge)
  • pushing another filament through the other end (the 1 to 4 end; won’t budge)
  • pushing another filament through any of the other 3 inlets (won’t budge)
  • grabbing it with something (my tweezers and fine tip pliers can’t get to it)

I would try melting a filament, get it in there so that it melts the stuck filament and solder both together. I would then push the collet and slowly pull the filament out. If it breaks and get a little higher you can use your tweezers while pushing the collet to get it out.

You can also try a drop of superglue on the piece of filament you use as driver or a drop of acetone if it’s ABS

I would have thought that the hub can be dissassembled somehow, there are no screws or clips that assemble the top and bottom? I can’t believe it’s one piece.

Edit: forget my comment about pushing the collet, it doesn’t need to with no PTFE inserted.

I like the superglue solution, I may try that as a starting point.

It does appear to be possible to disassemble the hub, however it requires an even smaller hex bit, which I don’t currently have.

@RetroSharky thanks! This gives me much more confidence on disassembling it. Now to find a small enough hex key.

I would not suggest the super glue route. Accidently getting that where you don’t want it will pretty much trash the unit.
