Are you guys really panicking about out of stock filament? get another filament brand!!! ok ok you scan and is ready to go. Okay thats super easy and I understand. Check it so you open bambu studio and go to calibration, you can calibrate the filament and it gives you a chart, you put that number in there, color and brand of filament and your done!!! in the mean time These guys get up and going. Very simple temp solution. I just dropped $1400 on elegoo PLA, not going to cry about bambu. Prints great too. I used Inland is okay as well and I never calibrated or assigned anything up until today 700 hours later. Super late to the party.
This is the sort of passion project that I am surprised you do not have an extruder or moulds for.

I used to paint. Have all the paints and airbrush. Too much money sitting in those tubs.
I’m not a purist, but I want premanufactured bricks. I tried 3D printing bricks needed years ago and didn’t like it. Stands are not really a deal breaker.
At least with 3D printing you should get some accessories printed for painting. I didn’t have a printer then. My hands shake too bad now.
I’m really not attached to the rfid tags, I’ve used other brands and made profiles etc. Something I don’t see being discussed here at all when offering alternatives is the fact that stuff like the Bambu petg hf that’s perpetually out of stock is more matte and just plain nicer looking than every single other brand I’ve used. Everyone’s talking about pla like ours a difficult filament to get, the petg hf is way more scarce.
Is there any other brand of filament that LOOKS like Bambu petg hf? That clean nearly matte texture with those crayon colors?
Looks like there is a new Bambu PETG Basic out. Not sure how close it will match the HF variant, but it’s in stock. I’m a fan of Sunlu “Matte” PETG HS (make sure it’s the Matte) when I can’t get Bambu HF, I can barely tell the black apart from Bambu HF, but I can’t find a good white. The Sunlu white prints great and has a “matte” finish its just not a white I like… I have not printed in many of the Sunly PETG Matte colors, the couple I have I have liked but they are not direct matches to the Bambu colors. Closest white I have found that I like is Creality PETG, but it’s not as “matte” finish
my 2p in one sentence; If you sell printers and use RFID, your filaments must always be in stock no matter what.
Sunlu may be the manufacturer of BL filament. Right now BL doesn’t make their own so who knows. Not that many who make their own.
I thought they had discontinued the HF, but it’s just been bumped down the page. Still out of stock, of course.
The “new“ PETG basic gray doesn’t match the HF gray. Always something.
More than 2-years later. I have been checking the Bambu Labs Maker’s Supply page every day for weeks. Almost all the normal (PLA/PETG) filaments are out of stock for weeks and weeks.
Engineering filaments from Bambu are $$$$$$$. I want to buy a BL AMS2 but it has been out of stock for weeks too.
BTW, SUNLU High Speed Matte PETG has been a great substitute for BL-PETG-HF
just dry it very thoroughly.
Also I really like SUNLU PLA+ 2.0, it is TOUGH and z-dir strength is really good!
Polymaker Matte PLAs are chef’s kiss sweet looking.
(tried Overland, Inland, and Elegoo Matte PLA, they didn’t work as well for me as the Polymaker.)
I might try eSun next.
But if I have to tune my own filament profiles and can’t use the RFID tags and a BL AMS,
maybe I should just get a different brand printer anyway? **I hope Bambu is reading this and gets a move on. I really like what I have gotten from Bambu, but the “out-of-stock” situation SUCKS.
Sorry, this strikes me as a silly thing to say. First, BL doesn’t make it’s own filament, and it’s strongly suspected either Sunlu or Polymaker are their suppliers. In my experience there’s no need to tune either. They print very well on the BL profiles.
I would had say the same, before understanding how to add other brands into the slicer (and into the machine consequentially)
rfid’s really a non-problem. any spool’s brand swap are the same 10 seconds on the machine’s display to set it, it took me longer to write this sentence

I am using other brands of filament…they work fine.
I can’t buy an AMS -OR- BL filament because both of them are out of stock.
I would like to buy both of them. And if BL doesn’t get stuff in stock I will just go buy something else.
But, if I buy a different multi-material system and a different printer, then there would be ZERO reason for me to buy Bambu Lab filament. Whereas a difference of $1-2 a spool to have the nominal convenience of the RFID tag is enough to have me buy from BL if they just had the stuff in stock.
Why is this in there? It seems like “if you don’t give me what I want I’ll go elsewhere for a printer”.
BL doesn’t care.
Also, on the subject of Filament options.
I am pretty new to 3d printing and filaments and stuff. Only been doing it for 6 months.
I have found that the prices are all over the map and you have to search around to find momentary “4-pack” deals to get the best prices, and that sometimes if you go right to the source’s website (looking at you SUNLU) they will offer to sell you something at $20/kg that you can buy on Amazon for $14/kg.
The Polymaker website seems great, well organized, easy to navigate and easy to find information about the pros and cons of their different product lines.
The Bambu Lab website is good, well organized, easy to nav, but not as easy to find and compare and contrast information about their stuff.
The SUNLU website and their product orgs is a trainwreck.
Is there a site that ships to US addresses that has reliable consistent “good enough” pricing and stock and is easy to use?
Be aware they have fulfilled orders using stock at Amazon. Had 4 rolls shipped from Amazon warehouses.
Really if you want Sunlu or Polymaker just order it from Amazon. The price will be the same or better and you can benefit from free shipping. I have had orders take as long as a week but that’s rare.
Again, Amazon can be your friend for this. It sucks because it’s Amazon but if you want something reliable then it’s your best if not only option. You can also get real cheap stuff to burn through prototypes or test prints with.
If every time I enter an ice cream parlor they have always finished half of the ice cream flavors, I stop going there and turn to an ice cream parlor that always has all the flavors available. the same goes for filaments. I only use non-BB for this exact reason.

Well I was able to order about 15 rolls of filament I needed. Only one color I couldn’t get and I have some Sunlu that’s similar. May order more black and white. Just running out of storage.
I’ve purchased all but one of those colors in the past month.
