When I first got my printer, I’d hear a horrible clunk when it purged the filament and wiped the nozzle. This happened during startup or during a filament change and was caused by something in the poop chute area. People on the forum said it was normal - no problem.
But now my printer no longer makes that noise. And sometimes the poop gets hung up in the purge area and occasionally dragged back out onto the print bed.
I can’t find any details on the web about what actually happens in that area, what’s supposed to be in there, and what exactly made that sound. Now I’m wondering if something is out of whack in there, or a part fell out that I didn’t notice.
What exactly happens to cause that noise and why would it disappear? Anything I should look for in terms of parts missing or something not where it should be?
Yes, but I’ll have to wait a couple days. I’m in the middle of a 3-day 4-color print which won’t be done till then. The AMS is on top and I can’t really move that while it’s printing. I’ll post a picture as soon as I can.
Thanks for the pics. I dont see anything out of the ordinary. That piece in the should be free to move about. It should move unlike the ptfe nozzle wiper.
I think I may be getting a handle on what’s going on. If I manually push the top of the black lever towards the rear of the printer, the bottom of it moves forward and pushes the flap closed.
It appears that when the head parks in the purge position, it pushes that lever back. Then, when the head moves to the side to go over the wiper, it slides off of that lever and as the level slams back into its original position, it generates that clunk. I tried this by using the controls to move the head back into position, and then moving it to the right. I get that characteristic clunk.
My guess is that Bambu was getting lots of complaints from people thinking that something was getting damaged in their printer, and decided to fix the noise in one of their firmware updates. I still get a mild click sound, but nothing like the scary loud clunk. I’m betting that the head now moves forward a small amount before moving sideways over the wiper. That would take some pressure off the lever so that it releases more gently and doesn’t sound so bad.
But it’s also possible that the more gentle release of the flap doesn’t shake loose the poop as effectively. That may be why I get the occasional problem with the poop. It doesn’t happen often though so I’m not too worried about that. I was just concerned that it might be a symptom of something else going wrong.
