Filament stuck in tube from AMS to filament buffer

I have an X1C which is relatively new. I have a problem with filament sticking either in the tube to the filament buffer (typically half way between the AMS and the filament buffer) or before it in the AMS. I’ve seen both. I can tell it’s half way from the colour in the tube.

When stalled I get all sorts of nasty grinding noises and I notice that the filament is scarred when I extract it.

I’ve checked all the tubes in the AMS and replaced the one from the AMS to the filament buffer. All of the tubes pass filament well. I cannot, however pass filament through the 4 way switch that selects the spool in the AMS. Hence I suspect that part is faulty.

I am in the process of printing from the external spool and that works fine, so the issue is with the AMS not the printer.

For some reason, I cannot select an issue type in the tech ticket section. So I’m trying here.

Hi @Iain_D

Usually, this kind of issue is easy to solve.

  1. What kind of filament are you using? Is it dry? Abrasive filaments don’t play well in the AMS, and brittle filaments can relate to moisture.
  2. Does the issue relate to a specific AMS slot?
  3. I know you replaced the tube, but how smooth is the path? And is the buffer spring loose?

Do you mean before entering the printer?
