Firmware 1.7 issue- Filament Retraction Issue

Since update to 1.7 I’ve been getting tons of errors “Failed to pull out the filament…” when I print from AMS multicolor models.

A simple press on “Retry” sometimes works, sometimes not.

To attempt to resolve the issue I replaced all of my PTFE tubes, cleaned the AMS hub. cleaned my extruder. added PTFE straightening mods. changed my cutting blade.

None of this worked, I dug into it a bit more last night and it appears that the filament is not being cut all the way through so when the AMS tries to pull it back it fails. it cuts 95% of the way through.

I rolled back the firmware and the issue hasn’t happened since. I theorize the motor reduction has had an impact on how hard it is pushing the cutter handle into the corner.

anyone else having this issue?

Are you printing PLA?

yes, only variable that has changed was the firmware update.

I had the same issue.

Is the door closed ?

Anyway, if there door is closed and you are using an AMS, move the AMS back a bit if it is on top of the printer, I had to make spacers for the AMS to sit on to acheive this.

Then slide the glass lid back on top of the spacers to create an air gap and make sure that you leave the door open.

This fixed all my problems, obviously I don’t know which part of the worl you are in… but my issues were caused by too high a cabinet temperature.

When I did this, I never had the issue again

I leave the top off and door open. like i said though When i rolled back the firmware it doesn’t continue to happen

I just ran into this same issue. I did absolutely everything to save my print (mutli-color started about 12 hours in) and ended up babysitting the retry button for 12 hours for it to finally finish. I tried door open and glass off, moved my AMSs around, checked pfte tubing, changed filament, changed the filament holders and it was still failing. What was a real pain is that it would be fine after i hit retry and it would sometimes fail a minute later or be fine for hours. After the print finished i took EVERYTHING apart and even changed out the cutter and extruder. Still had the issue… I’m going to revert tonight and try a multi color test, I’ll keep you updated.

Brand new AMS for X1C. Just added smoothy mod.
First time Printing multi-color. I’ve been having all kinds of slicer and printer errors.
Got Filament retraction issue in bay 4 with Bambu PLA Glow. I opened up the AMS and tried to pull. no luck.
I disconnected smooth at the Y branch, and pulled on the filament. Super easy. Then retry > no problem.

Weird, seems like its an AMS issue to me with the drive or firmware…only explanation that seems to make sense for inability to manually overcome the motor…

Yes - just found your thread after confirming that the same issue was caused by the firmware update. I rolled back and the issue went away. Back to 1.7 it came back, and reverted again and hasn’t happened since.

Update. After i rolled back I ran an 8 color test print (2 AMSs) and didnt have a single issue. Definitely something going on with 1.7.

Im having the exact same issue have you tried the new 1.7.1 update that came out today wonder if that will fix

Same here. Since update to 01.07.00.00 my X1C is possessed.
During every single print it fails to pull filament at least once. My last print was a 10minutes single material print and my X1C reloaded the filament 3 times and during the last reload it failed to pull the filament. Why did it even need to reload the same filament 3 times during one print?

Timelapse videos are also broken. From a 14h print he made a 1 second timelapse!
I just updated to 01.07.01.00 and restarted ma last print. It did heat up the nozzle, purge the filament, cleaned the nozzle and then instantly purged filament one more time. At least no random filament reloads during a single material print.

Looks like I paid 2.000€ to be a firmware beta tester for bambu. Not happy at all.

No one is forcing you to update to the latest firmware. There will be bugs. You can go back to the previous version via the Handy app.

Beta firmware shouldn’t be put out through standard channels. If I walk up to my machine and it informs me that there is a firmware update (and I have not opted in to beta updates) I should be safe to install it in the knowledge it has been thoroughly bug tested before being pushed to consumers.

This error has been quite frustrating while trying to print a large multi-plate job out in time for Christmas. Before the update, it just worked. Now, I’ve had to wake up multiple times overnight to restart prints because of this pullback failure or I wake to find 7 hours of wasted time as the machine waits for me to fix the problem.

I had thought it was the addition of a new AMS and the Hub, but I guess not if it’s happening to everyone else too. I will maybe try rolling back the update once the current print is finished and see if it clears it, as I have several mutli-filament jobs to do in the next few weeks.

I bought the X1C for the it just works functionality. And normally it does. but this error has made it a nuisance that requires constant babysitting. Only once did this error come up and I had to do anything other than hit retry. Somehow, the support filament had wrapped around the roller in the AMS. Pulled it free and reset it into the feeder and all was well. Every single other error has been Retry and it goes away.

Every time I do a successful update (and no I’m not saying all of the firmware has been good) meaning it is fully booted and ready to print I cycle the on/off switch in the back and once its done restarting I perform a caliberation
So far 1.7 has been working fine for me but I’m curious about 1.7.1 and what bugs there were.
As always I’ll ignore the prompt for now and see what 7.1 has to offer
But so far no issues with 7.0 on my end
Sometimes a very small mechanical variance will not jive with a particular firmware
I did notice that the rollback firmware now only goes back to a single previous version
Not cool Bambu, not cool at all v

I go a step further after an update and restore factory settings. I’ve seen too many strange behaviors and failed prints after an update that were corrected by a complete reset. Some of them did not appear until 2-3 prints later. I just save some time and frustration and get the reset out of the way first. Then, if there is a problem, I know it is truly a bug.

Interesting
By restore factory settings are you referring to your slicer and filament settings ?
Or do you mean in the utilities section doing a factory reset ?

I use the utility menu: Touch screen hex icon, General tab, Restore factory settings.

My User filament and process settings do not change.

Pressure advance settings stored on the printer by the Bambu Studio calibration procedure will be erased, but I don’t use them. I use OrcaSlicer, which uses PA values stored in the filament presets, where they are backed up in the Bambu cloud and by my normal drive backups.

After the restore, you will go through the same steps as a new printer, setting language, region, printer calibration, etc.

Ah ok

Ya, I’ve been using Orca myself back when it was still called Soft Fever and I’m always updating my slicers be it Orca or Bambu (currently on Orca 1.8.1 which just works)

I did take a bit of a hiatus from this forum because I was getting some static in the early days for my mods on my X1C

It seemed the purists felt as though I was doing a disservice to BL lol

Things have changed, some folks are still here but many are new and unfamiliar to me

I stepped out when the BL employees started giving me static and telling me tall tales of issues others had attempting similar mods

I get it, some people like a Lamborghini to remain stock but I like a few others in here at the time wanted to push the X1C to new levels

Funny thing is my very first mod only a couple hundred hours in was to replace my PTFE tubing with Cap tube and people just couldn’t believe that such a simple mod would make any difference while others claimed it would cause issues

Still using the same Cap tubing with zero issues at nearly 3k hours and it’s nice to have watched things progress on the modification end of things

I don’t see any issues with wanting to modify MY printer and if something works I’m happy to share

Yes Cap tube made a difference but my explanations on how were frowned upon

I read every argument in the book until it got to the point where I asked to have the thread removed because the attacks and ignorant replies were consuming me

I didn’t come back to stir the pot so I won’t list my simple mods here but there are others that received far less flack for for more intrusive modifications

Perhaps I was just coming across wrong ?

Either way approaching the 3000 hour mark my X1C still churns out fantastic high quality prints and I’ve pushed every type of filament through my printer minus filaments that require a kiln like metal infused materials

As for the factory reset, I’ve never gone that far mostly due to being lazy and not wanting to set up my printer from scratch again

I know recently that BL actually has collaborated with another company to provide an aftermarket high flow nozzle and also that Revo is releasing a nozzle for the X1 series printers with their quick change nozzles and a diamond nozzle will now be a reality on the X1

I never have had an issue with aftermarket upgrades (clones are another ball game)and hopefully BL is willing to accept this as more of an opportunity rather than an insult

The firmware being locked down is still an issue in my mind, it feels like Fiat locking out the ECM on my Challenger, yet even that didn’t work for Dodge because I got an unlocked ECM and put a custom tune in it because my Challenger is not stock by any means

Hopefully one day we will be able to dig into the Firmware but until then I’m still a satisfied customer and I’ll continue to update and upgrade my X1C as I feel without a corporation telling me that I can’t

Maybe in China the citizens aren’t allowed to live a full life of freedom to do as they please but I don’t live in China and I’ll do what I like, l say what I like and sometimes fail on my own accord as I live my free life how I like

As for now, I’m still waiting on feedback from the newest firmware before even considering it
