Firmware update failure

I am currently on firmware 01.08.00.00 on the X1C and 00.00.06.40 on the AMS. I am not able to update the firmware. It stays on 0% for a while and then I get an update failed message and to restart the printer.

I have tried all of the following:

  1. Replaced the SD card
  2. Perform the upgrade from the Bambu Handy App
  3. Perform the upgrade from Bambu Studio
  4. Perform the upgrade on a Wifi hotspot from my phone instead of my home Wifi
  5. Downgrade to an earlier firmware also failed.

Would appreciate any other ideas I might try.

Did you try it from the screen on the printer? If that doesn’t work the other thing I see a lot of people saying is just to keep trying. I’m wondering if the servers that host the updates go down sometimes? I’ve seen people say it worked hours later and I’ve seen people say it took a day or two.

Yes I missed adding that. I did try from the screen. I made these attempts over several days too.

It looks like you’ve tried all fixes people normally do. Is the printer able to read the new SD card ok? Could you format it from the printer screen? I would open a ticket with Bambu just to make sure it isn’t something on their end causing it.

Yes, I tried a new SD card and formatted it on the printer. Everything works perfectly. Just not able to update.

This has been an issue for some and takes a replacement printer main board. There is another thread here with lots more details.

Can you provide a link to “… another thread here …”. I would like read up on these this…

Here is one thread but it was discussed in a few.

I have the same problem, any fix?

At least for a number of others, failed AMS firmware updates took replacing the main board in the printer to fix. After replacing the main board in the printer, AMS firmware updates were able to continue normally.

If you have this problem best to contact Bambu support. They seem to have been pretty responsive. They will want logs so might hit the wiki and see how to collect them.

I finally resolved the issue with a board replacement. Bambu support were extremely helpful and quick to respond.

With the number of these there have been, and I’m not aware of a single case where a firmware update issue wasn’t solved by replacing the main board, I have to wonder if there wasn’t a bad batch of main boards.

In a lot of the cases where this occurred, the user lost the use of the AMS unit(s) until it was resolved but resolution was pretty quick.

I don’t know if they were repaired under warranty or if Bambu has replaced main boards outside of warranty. If this is a warranty only kind of thing, folks might want to find a convenient time and try updating their AMS units before warranty times out.

I bought a X1C combo last year black Friday sale and my AMS units updated fine so maybe other combos bought then are fine too. Would be helpful if those with problems post when they got their printers so might be able to see how big an issue it might be and maybe get systems fixed before they time out of warranty - if this is only a warranty repair. I don’t know. If someone else knows…

Any news here? I also can’t get the firmware of my X1C updated.

It sticks at 0% and then states failed, both when I try it from the printer and from the Windows app.

There must be a fix available?

The best thing you can do is contact support asap so you can get the process started.

For doing that I have to provide a printer log file. Where to find that for the failed firmware update?

Thanks a lot, that was helpful!

Support ticket is created, and it’s the AP board.

What concerns me for the repair process: Looking at Replacing the AP board / Application Board | Bambu Lab Wiki I saw that I also need

  • UV glue or fixing tape
  • Silicone glue

as well as a hair dryer to loosen the current glue.

Do I really need to glue cable to the new board?

I haven’t done that before so don’t know the answer. You could ask the question in its own thread though. Might get more notice and some answers.

I replaced the AP board and I didn’t. A lot of the Bambu spare parts come with a tiny tube of silicone glue and when you’re working on the printer you’ll find lots of connectors that have the glue on them. It’s meant to hold the connectors in place when the printer is doing its thing (vibrations) and also when it’s being shipped. I print a lot and I’ve never had one vibrate loose though. The challenging part of this repair is going to be the waiting when you’re done. Someone from Bambu has to change the AP board that’s connected to your account on their end when you’re done.

Where is that “its own thread”?
Not sure which thread you are referring to.
