So, I have these .4 Panda High Flow nozzles. Tried them, prints looked like crap. same with the .6 and .8 nozzles. What should I do to get the most and best prints out of these, and most important, is it worth it? I mainly print PLA, PLA Silks and PETG.
Benefits? Con’s? Pro’s? I just finished cleaning all my nozzles, which I have quite a few of between the H2D and H2C.
I use HF 0.4’s on both nozzles. Mainly ABS. 30mm^3/s volumetric speed. Could probably go higher speed. Print quality is exactly the same. Part integrity the same as well.
On a 30 hour print, probably saving a good 4-6 hours depending on the parts by using them. Well worth the investment.
You get into .6 and higher. No idea. Will need to change layer height / width / volumetric speed to see the advantages.
Even an hour saved for me was worth the price of admission.
On the 0.4’s I just changed volumetric speed and let it eat.
Mind you, I had already dialed in my filament for what I print repeatedly to begin with. I got the HF nozzles across the board a few months after that.
The machine is smart enough to know (basic acceleration / speed settings) where it can take advantage of the high speed and where it needs to slow down in a critical area.
In the process of calibrating a new filament, so when that is done, I will give the HF a try and see how it does. If VM is at say 28 mms, what would be a good number to raise it to?
I honestly wouldn’t know for any other size nozzles. I did mine based on a flow test I did (the manual kind) and chose a safer lower margin from max to be on the safe side.
With .6 and .8 HF stuff.., I would think it would be much higher. But you never know until you can flow your nozzle with your filament.
The Bambu Lab nozzles are comparatively cheap, work flawlessly, are easy to exchange and do everything I want. On the X1C I invested in an E3D 0,4mm Obxidian HF nozzle and it made a huge difference to the stock nozzle. Now that BBL also offers HF nozzles, I don’t see a reason to use something more expensive.
Also, I don’t see much use in bigger nozzles, except for filament that contains particles like CF, glow-in-the-dark etc.
A HF nozzle brings far more speed/flow bonus and you can print wider lines with a 0,4mm nozzle as well. When I print in vase mode, I use a 0,4mm nozzle at 0,8mm line width. If you want to go much wider, it would make sense to use a bigger nozzle. I think line widths around 2x the nozzle size should work fine.
