Gift card no longer transferable? what?

I tried to enter gift cards created from another account into the checkout and it seems to work correctly. However, the gift cards were redeemed days ago when this new limitation/block was unknown, perhaps it only applies to gift cards that have been redeemed recently?

What region are you in?

the reason might be valid to you… but like i said. they do not need to tell us anything as it is stated in the rules when you go read them thats exactly what they say. they dont need to tell us anything at anytime and can freely do whatever they want… hope this helps you, thank you

I’m referring to gift cards for the EU region

Is there a link to any official announcement or policy regarding gift card transferability, or lack thereof? I sent a friend who is saving up for a printer 5 codes he can use. Just wondering if he will have to order through my account when he gets to that point. I’m in the US.

i just had my friend try one of mine here in US and he confirmed it didnt work… so appears to be the case regardless of an announcement

Hopefully I can still just buy the printer for him from my account and let him set it up under his. I bought a printer for my nephew last Christmas on my account using gift card vouchers and he was able to create his own account and link it to that.

Nope

Yeah, that shouldn’t be an issue. It doesn’t link to the purchasing account by default.

I doubt that it is legal in all countries to have rules that allow them to change conditions as they like. Those gift cards are like real money. At least in the EU, I can’t imagine that they can suddenly prohibit passing them to somebody else.

nope…
You have no property rights in points, and points can only be used as described here. Points have no cash, monetary, or other value, and cannot be redeemed in whole or in part for cash. Your points balance or any part of it is not transferable, cannot be divided as part of a settlement, legal proceeding or death, and cannot be combined with points of any other member in the program. Points may not be brokered, bartered, attached, pledged, gifted, or sold.

But that doesn’t mention the transferability of gift cards. It is what it is, just wondering when the gift card rules changed.

you quote the terms, but I doubt those are legal in the EU. Maybe regarding points. But as soon as I have a gift card which equals a certain amount of money, I don’t think it is legal to prohibit transferring it somebody else, at least in the EU.

But you are comparing a gift card bought with real money vs one exchanged from “internet points”.

They are nothing more than personalized coupon codes. If you get one from your favorite retailer because you’ve been a loyal customer for years you wouldn’t bat an eye if that code was non-transferable.

You might be right. I still doubt it, but it certainly is more of a feeling than a informed fact.

jesus christ im not reading that novel… maybe ill run it through AI to TLDR it

here is AI summary TLDR:
The journey to the availability of videos for hire and purchase on DVD involved significant changes in laws affecting digital content and intellectual property. Initially, consent for software was a simple tick box, which made it easier for users to agree to terms without reading them. As services evolved, long and complex terms and conditions became standard, often going unread. Companies abused these agreements, particularly around privacy, leading to weak regulations that allowed continuous consent based on prior agreements. With the rise of cloud computing and user-unfriendly practices, corporations gained power over consumer data, leading to issues like unmonitored gift card usage and tax evasion through online sales.

Unused gift cards can still be transferred to others.
If a gift card has been used by a user, it will be bound to this user, and others cannot use it anymore.

Related regions:
US, UK, CA, AU, KA, Global(Asia)

JP and EU gift card will also follow this behavior later

hmm i had a friend try one of mine yesterday to test the theory and he couldnt use it. It was a code I never used as when i tried it on my account it applied it after he tested it. Perhaps you guys can do some internal testing and see if something was broken in your web maintenance. Happy to hear we may still be able to share the codes though. I like to send them to my son on occasion.

Thank you for your response. However, I would like to clarify one point: when you say a gift card is “used”, do you mean only that the code has been entered in the checkout field (even if the order has not been completed)? Or do you mean that the gift card has actually been used for an order, and therefore the amount has been deducted?

good question,Let me explain in detail the concept of “used”
When the user enters the gift card code on the settlement page and clicks APPLY, the gift card is bound to the current user (not waiting until the actual payment is completed), which is the “used” mentioned above.
