Goodbye Makerworld - It's been Real

@MakerWorld
Today I was greeted with 21 strikes and a 2000 point fine as a retrospective punishment. They all seemed to be about not having photos of the actual models, which all of mine did until the rules changed yet again. After a 500 point fine where the photo rule was applied, I made sure all my models complied with the rules then.

I appealed one strike, my car phone holder which YOU @BambuLab used as a cover page for the Car Accessories Contest. After which I just used up all my gift cards and chose to rather just delete my whole account.

How long are you going to hide behind the ā€œBetaā€, will it ever be a release? Or are you keeping it in beta so that you can keep changing the rules and then penalizing users for things they did when it was legal?

Can you please update your product photos of your PPS-CF filament on your store where you have used one of my models without crediting me, or can I fine you? I guess not.

Perhaps you could have flagged the offending posts and giving users a few days to rectify them, but no guilty first then good luck trying to appeal. Some of the profiles you deleted were the only copies of those models, after I lost a harddrive- thank you so much for that.

Thank you for ruining my sharing experience, the way I feel now I donā€™t think Iā€™ll ever share my designs on any platform again.

After deleting my account, I could no longer access my printer anymore. Once again great job makerworld, as now itā€™s mandatory to have a makerworld account to use the handy (now useless) app. This was something I could do before makerworld was launched, so now Iā€™ve lost functionality that I paid for. Since I now want nothing to do with makerworld ever again, I used LAN mode. I now have a permanent message saying Iā€™m an invalid user of my machine, again thank you very much.

Good luck and bye-bye now.

(I used paragraphs just for @MalcTheOracle )

Hi, I got the same issue and lost 3000+ points, but I did not update the print profiles with real print model images after MW released the new rule for a while, so I just accepted it and uploaded the profiles again.
I also sent messages to tell them that deleting the profiles directly is not a good idea. Itā€˜s hard to find all the old profiles one by one, especially someone whose dates were lost in a hard drive, as you said. The best way is to keep the old profiles so the creator can edit them later.
But thereā€™s no need to delete your account, bro. MW is growing so fast, They are using big data algorithms to filter issues, indeed there could be wrong cases, just tell them and give them advice to improve it. Letā€™s make MW better together.

could be frustrating ā€¦ itā€™s true ā€¦ but tell us how much is the 2000 points fine compared to how much you received in total ?
I mean this could be just a drop of sand ā€¦
I believe you just donā€™t want to use your time making models anymore, which is fine, but you donā€™t punish Bambu by deleting your models.
Anyway ā€¦ a better solution would be for Bambu to make those profiles ā€œdraftā€ , not delete them.

Today I woke up with the same problem, I print all my publications myself, I have deleted all the publications.

its bullshitā€¦ same happened to me but because of some douche bag

Was that ā€œsameā€ this:

because the impression was that youā€™ve ā€œrage-quitā€

it happened because your ā€œproofā€ of the printed models looked worse than the average UFO footage.

Oh how Iā€™m sorry I missed this.
Bravo on that btw, love that.

May just steal to use later.

Didnā€™t Bambu send out a message about this like 3 months ago to upload real photos?

I did read the community guidelines when they were updated on 2nd Sep. I just reread them now, and the one I got struck for doesnā€™t appear on the main guideline page Community Guidelines - MakerWorld. The profile rule is via a link to the wiki pages, so thatā€™s how I must have missed it by assuming that the wiki page for help and not rules. It would be better if all the rules in one place. I have always uploaded real photos of the printed models, the only ones that didnā€™t have photos were imports from other websites at the very beginning and those I made private long ago.

Also, during the Black Friday sale people mentioned that there were manual reviews for gift card redemptions. So I tried to redeem one voucher and got the manual review, a few days leter it was granted. So why didnā€™t this happen back then?

35000 in a year minus the fines and thats ok, but the main reason is as @wuguigui said ā€œdonā€™t delete themā€ make them private so that we can fix them.

No I was disappointed and a bit emotional, and the thought of redoing all those models just took the wind out of my sails. So I just recited my 3 lines that Iā€™ve often thought but never typed on this forum:-

  • Their website
  • Their money
  • Their rules

I lost 27pts last night because of ā€œno pictureā€ for the profile, except the profile had a pic, of the item in use, for each item in the profile. Each profile had a picture.

Irritating, I appealed, and Iā€™ll just reup if needed. However I will use the same pic, justā€¦modified to get their attention.

MW sent out a system message back in Sept. I had to take a break from 3D printing at the time and still noticed it. Below is part of the message. So this is not without warning.

Dear MakerWorld Creators,

I use LAN mode and never have this message.

Yes. I was going to make this request the other day but somehow didnā€™t get to it.

Feel free to come back any time. Some have said they would leave BL many times but they are all still here, as far as I can tell. Nowadays everyone has a phone with a camera. Most creators have no trouble meeting this requirement.

Itā€™s gone after power cycle, so itā€™s all good now.

Sorry duane ā€“ my comment in your thread wasnā€™t addressed to you, it was a reply to drewcifer. Iā€™ll fix my comment to make it clear.

As for your actual situation - I get it sucks a lot, I get your reactionā€¦ MW should imho allow creators to fix the profiles hit with ā€œnot having photoā€ instead of nuking them (itā€™s as easy as turning profile to private and not allowing to re-publish without manual review).

I do think that if you were a lot more patient (I know itā€™s very hard) and pushed support for manual review, most likely they would after some very annoying back-and-forth fixed their mistake and probably restored the profiles too.

One hint here - can you create another account and connect it to handy and the printer? Just for your usage, not for the benefit of MW or any other?

No worries mate, it looks like Iā€™ll need a new account to setup my new X1C.
And yes I didnā€™t expect a reply from makerword, I just wanted to bring it to their attention that the heavy handed government style of dealing with things will not be well received. Living in Aus, I have enough of that already and donā€™t need it with things that are supposed to be fun pastimes.

It also looks like deleting your makerworld account deletes all of your logins to the forum and the bambu store, some how the forum is still working on this browser but if I try use a different PC then I cannot login to the forum either.

Fun times ahead

I disagree. The rule has been established in September 2023.

If you upload profiles you have to check that you have uploaded images of the printed model.

Makerworld even gave users a notice in advance that soon it will be enforced and you have until [Date X] to add pictures to the profiles.

But if you STILL didnā€™t follow through, then you fully deserve to get it taken down.

Just a quick bump here - Iā€™ve added my 2 cents regarding print profile images here: Print Profile Guidelines on MakerWorld

Let me clarify: I do agree with the rule, I do agree with penalty for violating the rule, I do get the fact that profile creators had enough time to fix incompatible profiles (although for some that could create additional problems, by having to download their own profiles and re-print, which could then be seen as point meddling)ā€¦ Hereā€™s a part you didnā€™t quote:

Simple: instead of nuking the profile, turn the profile suspected of not having real print photos private and mark it as non-publishable without manual review. Then creator can download the profile, print the item if they have to and publish new profile with a photo or request a manual review (or both).

This would be beneficial in cases where creator honestly attached photos and that got mistaken as render and at the same time creator lost access to files (because life happens and hard drives arenā€™t indestructible)

This most likely satisfies your:

since private profiles are not accessible to anyone except uploader nor do they generate any points.
