Can you post comparative prints on the same material between two printers? i.e. benchy from one and another.

I think it would have been. They could have introduced the laser as an add on a few months later. IMO, the main positive aspect would have been, people wouldn’t have felt like they are paying for development of a feature they never wanted. They still would have, but they wouldn’t have known it. Big difference. Then after the release of the laser, they would have put the dots together but the previous thoughts would likely prevail and the worry of paying for development that they didn’t want would be suppressed.

I’m actually finding this is my worse Bambu for VFAs. The two P1S’s I had, were stacking layers like champs. This is the first Bambu printer I actually noticed VFA’s on. Its not bad, but they are there. But oddly, they aren’t super consistent across the print for me. I’ll see a band or swath in the middle of a face where it fades to nothing later. A little odd, but honestly the magnitude is very low. Not sure I would have noticed them if the lighting wasn’t so good :laughing:. My guess is it might be related to a specific stepper speed. But again the magnitude is so low that I’m not going to put a lot of time in to it.

Can you do a small test and print a tall vertical wall with black or dark colored PETG positioned along the X-axis?
Or if you want, I can prep a file for you to print.

Some people are saying something about VFA, yet nobody posted a single picture of that.

I’ve been printing trays in white PETG-HF, and on there, there’s been a noticeable difference.

I’ve got some PETG-HF and PETG Basic in black. Both Bambu. I’m gonna try the PETG-Basic, but I’m not 100% sure the condition, so we’ll see!

Interesting tid-bit. So when I printed one of those trays, it used up the last of my PETG-HF white filament on the given spool. It didn’t purge the last bit out of the toolhead though like X1/P1 does, so I had to manually fish that bit of filament out of the toolhead. I couldn’t find a way to clear it otherwise.

I removed the PTFE tube, then had to heat the toolhead, so it’d let me back the filament out, since the extruder was still holding onto it.

I had a run out of filament during a print and it was a bit fiddly to get the AMS to take a new roll of the identical filament and restart. Can’t remember what I did just before giving up that made it work, but it was annoying.

And like you mentioned, I didn’t notice it purging the remainder of the filament out. But for me it didn’t matter because it was going to continue to use the same filament.

About the last bit of material. Did it trigger the runout sensor? I believe in a case like that you may try and load another spool to force through the last piece in extruder. Thinkin about this, I think I’ve faced this issue only once or twice on P1 in a few thousand hours… anyway, for H2D it’s probably a FW correction needed. Sucks, but the price to be an early adopter… for a few grand lol.

This will be my first 3D printer so I’m not exactly clear on what the issue is, but it sounds like exactly the kind of thing I was trying to avoid by spending this much money :frowning:

They’ll probably add it in a software update soon.

I’m not sure if it actually did. The print finished in the middle of the night, and had enough filament. The spool was empty though and the filament was mid-way on the PTFE tube inside the actual printer. When I tried to load another roll of filament, it just complained about filament already in the toolhead, and I need to unload that first.

NoahKatz, it’s likely a bug/firmware issue that’ll get fixed and isn’t something you need to frown about. It’s your first 3d printer? So you’ll probably run into a few things that make you scratch your head, but will turn out to be easy, not a big deal. This forum is here to help with those things too, so we’ve got ya!

I’m curious how this will look with some of my models that are prone to VFAs. Those white trays, it was more or less gone it felt. Although not perfect. Partly from it being white and a little matte, I’m sure.

With this black PETG, it’s more noticeable. I’m not sure how it’d compare to the X1 doing the same print. It’s hard to get a good photo of. There’s regular bands and those bands have the wave. It’s easier to see in person.


Welp, that’s what I was talking about. Those look exactly like 2mm VFA from X and P printers.

Can you measure the pitch between ripples? It should be 1.5mm, right?

And yes, of course it’s worse with X1, since the stepping is 2mm and will be bigger. But we all knew about those VFAs…

@StreetSports and @Kenny89 , you were so sure that 1.5mm resolves all the issues. What would be the consensus?

ive never said anything about pitch size. the thing you see here looks like top bottom images… i can also tell that the first layer looks burnt and crappy. no idea what he did or how he sliced the model and what kind of calibrations he did, but imo top layers wouldnt show vfa it would show over or underextrusion

It was from the brim. I ripped the model off the build plate, but the brim didn’t want to go.
