H2D Laser BirdEye calibration

Hey everyone,

I just got my H2D Laser with the 40W laser module. On the 3D printing side, everything looks great – definitely Bambu Lab-level quality.

But I’m having a serious problem with the laser side. When running the BirdEye camera calibration, the process gets to 60%, and then the laser head slams straight into the build plate**, leaving a visible dent/hole.

At first, I thought I messed up the procedure, so I rebooted the machine and carefully went through it again, ready to kill the power if needed. Unfortunately, same result: at 60%, the head crashes into the bed.

I’ve already opened a support ticket, but I’d really appreciate any input or similar experiences from the community.

Is this a known issue? Did I miss something obvious?

Thanks in advance!

Have you used the printer before, or is this your first time setting it up?

If so, did you verify that the rear Z rod is installed correctly?

I don’t have the Lazer model and haven’t come across any discussions about this problem yet.

Maybe someone else has some insights? :crossed_fingers:

wait don’t you have to install the laser plate when doing this calibration? (I haven’t tried my laser module yet since my air purifier hasn’t arrived, so i’m just recalling from my memory)

Hi, yes the machine has already been running in 3D printing mode (around 150 hours) with no issues on that side

Since the BirdEye camera hasn’t been calibrated yet, you’re not supposed to install the laser bed at the beginning.

I also have problems with the laser part. mine fails calibration once the laser module is installed, I’m waiting for a response from support who sent my logs to the R&D team

Keep me posted — no word from support on my side yet either. Did your head also crash into the bed?

If you’d like to check whether the camera ribbon is properly installed, you can try reseating the ribbon cable on both ends.

Replace H2D BirdsEye Camera/BirdsEye Camera Cable

Be prepared to shut off the power if it looks like it’s going to crash again.

Support may be able to review the log file to identify the issue and provide you with replacement parts or a quick solution. :crossed_fingers:

Please keep us updated, as this information could help others too.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try once my prints are finished

In my case, it definitely hits the bed — it happens during the BirdEye camera calibration. I’m going to try taking it apart and see if that helps

I disassembled and reassembled the BirdEye camera, and now it works!
