If only Darkmoon can build a proper global shipping chain …
I spoke to BTT a few days ago, they said no news yet. I told them many of us are waiting for the frostbite (not the glacier), they said they would pass the request to the higher ups.
I finally ordered the H2D and it made me feel a little sick at how much money I spent though I know it will be good for my little printing business. Then I realized I still have to order a PLA PETG cold plate and a USB fit. Maybe I should have just ordered the smooth build plate from Bambu for now it is good to have a smooth plate on hand.
I used to use the smooth PEI plates almost exclusively until the polyura plates came out for PLA/PETG. I also discovered nano polymer adhesive for nylon and other engineering filaments. After that the smooth PEI plates just sat unused, so I did not bother picking one up for the H2D.
I do have a small collection of plates already: BTT Glacier, Juupine Geco and aftermarket PEI (for use with nano polymer). Just need the Frostbite and I will have everything I need for it.
Which has the most adhesion and which is currently your favorite for PLA/PETG? I saw a poster on Reddit post a picture of his X1c Supertac plate in his H2D saying it was possible to use smaller build plates to print on. Is this true? If so how does it work? Does the H2D bed leveling probe the entire area?
For PLA im using the Geco or Glacier for now until the Frostbite comes out. Geco has the best adhesion for PLA but unfortunately it is not compatible with silk or PETG. Also its just a sticker on top of a steel plate, not a proper polyura plate like Frostbite where its a coatings, so I would not recommend it. The Fysetc might be a good option as it looks like the Frostbite just in a grey color similar to other generic PEZ plates, so will work with both silk and PETG.
Some people using X1 sized plates with H2D but I dont think it is a good idea:
Don’t have any fancy plate for my H2D yet. Going to get Geco and Looking forward for Supertac one and Frostbite when they will come out. Using Geco Plate on X1C for PLA and I must say, I’m very happy. Yes surfaces are stickers but I don’t see any problem here at all. Had no fails in a long time. And My settings here is 1c for print bed. In other words not warming it at all. Nice Power save even in comparison with Supertack or Frostbite. Only issue as for me is not a best Magnetic power. So printing full surface area can lead a plates peel off from Print bed and cause a warp even if model stick to plate perfect. So large area prints I wouldn’t recommend or if You do, use a Bed Clamps.
What is surprizing for me, it is that BambuLab haven’t released Supertac plate for H2D yet.
Hi everyone, does anyone know when Bambu Lab plans to release the Cool Plate for the H2D?
I did quite a few ASA prints on the glacier over the weekend. I had high expectations, but after lots of filament profile tweaks, warping and even one adhesion failier, I just threw the Bambu textured plate (gold) back on, and instantly a perfect result. So I’m new to the glacier, and it’s possible that I over looked something, but I scrubbed it with soap and water, even tried IPA, set the bed to 100c and was very careful not to touch the print area ever. The result was just underwhelming. I will give it another try with PLA and PETG, but for ABS and ASA, I won’t use it again.
Oh sorry to hear! I’ve had good results with ASA on my glacier. I’ll do a bit more testing on mine.
@CVD recognising that my endorsement for ASA printing at least partially inspired you to pick one up. Tried one of my last prints with a reslice to ASA, lots of flat long stretches and corners. no lifting
Edit BL ASA used
Ya no worries! As always with 3D printing, it could be a vast number of differences; filament brand/blend, slicer settings, or even just bad luck with the plate production. I’m sure I’ll find a use for the plate with other filaments… I was just shocked at how much better the Bambu textured plate performed. I wasn’t expecting it.
I ordered the Fysetc cryonix from AliExpress and to be honest it’s been surprisingly good. I printed a few things at 30 degrees and they seemed okay, but a couple of torture tests needed 40 degrees to pass so I’ve settled on that. It has a nice texture, not as rough as the standard textured plate but not smooth either, so in-between the two. It’s what I use mostly now.
I returned my glacier plate for the same reason. I tried multiple filaments on it and it was OK. I had a few failed prints, when I switched to the PEI plate they just worked. I’ll probably end up getting a garolite plate and a frostbite. Glacier plate was a big swing and a miss for me. It’s not that it was terrible, it’s just it didn’t improve anything I tryed to use it on.
I messaged Darkmoon asking him if there was any news on the Darkmoon Ice plate for the H2D and this is what he said:
“Ice TBD. Others will be coming in the next few weeks. “
Not sure what that means. Ice is to be determined? Does that mean it hasn’t been yet decided whether to make one for the H2D? I don’t know.
TBD is To Be Done. At least in my Internet-World
I’ve figured out the a fix with the Supertac if you get one that doesn’t work. But first let me say that I bought them for my mini and ps1 when they came out and the adhesion was insane. Every print successful, no longer had to watch the first layer. I no longer needed a brimm on a part as small as a 6mm pole. Bambu specs say that the Supertac begins to loose adhesion after 300h. After 500h the tiny objects on the plate without a brimm began getting messed up and I had to start watching the first layer again. So I ordered another Supertac. This time it was not working well. Only half the things stuck to it. I met a guy on Reddit who said he uses the pei textured plate and never has problems but he uses 80c for pla! So I began testing different temperatures with the Supertac. The higher in temperature you go the better it works but I keep it to 55-60.
Since using 55-60c the Supertac has not failed not even once in the past few weeks. So it may seem contradictory/pointless to use the Supertac (which defaults at 45c) at 55-60c but it works.
In my world TBD stands for “To Be Decided”
Lol i hope you are correct. I did a google search for TBD and it said the same thing I thought it was “to be determined” so I dunno.
I’d read that as the date on ice is to be determined, as he had more definite times for ‘others’.
Yeah bambu definitely had quality control issues with their supertack plates. My first one won’t stick firmly, anything larger than 5cm would warp. While I was arguing with Bambu support I gave it a blind shot to buy a second plate to verify if the first plate was defective, and voila, turns out the first plate was indeed defective and the second plate sticks really well.
