Has the cool/engineering plate been retired?

I’ve only ever used that side of my cool plate once and that was to use the PETG I got free with the printer, but I noticed they no longer sell it on the store

I have that and the original textured pei and was looking into getting the smooth pei plate next, but I was wondering, can I just use the engineering plate? it doesn’t mention PLA compatibility, but the coating on it seems similar to a smooth pei plate to me?

Discontinued cool plate

I recently learned that the dual sided engineering/cool plate was discontinued, and I’m sad. I’ve had excellent results using it (i really only print PLA). I have 2 newer ones that are in great condition, 2 older ones that have some corrosion on the engineering side, and 2 spare replacement cool sheets. So, enough for quite a long time. RIP. The cool plate has never let me down. I still have spare sheets for it actually so should be good for a while. I guess pei sheets are more convenient though, as long as you keep them away from fingerprints…

I don’t think I’ve touched my cool plate since I got my smooth PEI sheet, so I suspect you won’t have any trouble finding secondhand plates if you need them in the future.

I use the Engineering plate all the time and love it for ASA prints. I use the Cooling plate the rare time I print PLA but it works great every time. I guess I’ll have to treat them a little better too extend their life. LOL
