Horizontal pin is bending during print

Hi!

I’m creating a sortimo for my resistors. I’ve designed a hinge system with a pin and a corresponding hole in the other part. The problem is that when I print it, the pin bends upwards — see the picture.

In an earlier attempt, I used 2 wall loops and 3 bottom layers. The entire thing came out warped, but the pins were straight.

In the top picture, I tried 6 wall loops and 5 bottom layers. The print is much less warped, but the pins are bending during the print. I’ve tried two times, both ended up in warped pins.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

What filament are you using? Supports?

Hi AD3DStuff.
I’m using Polyterra PLA+.
I’m using supports. Just the basic settings. No tree supports, normal ones.
It’s like the pin is rising from the supports while it’s being printed.

How much surface area of the bottom of the pin is getting supported? You should be able to look at model from underneath and see color code for support after slicing.

Hmm… it’s not a lot of support. I changed the threshold angle to 90 and nothing changed. How can I change the supports to cover more of the bottom of the pins?

Oh, I’m having Normal Support Expansion set to -0.3 mm. Else the supports will extend beyond the build plate. If I set it to 0, the supports go all the way up to 90 degrees. But then they extend beyond the build plate.

I have mounted the large 140 mm fan in the ceiling of the printer enclosure, instead of the back. It’s part of a ventilation system I’m using. It’s a hole in the top cover that leads the air into a hose. Maybe it cools the pin to quick? Maybe I should disconnect the fan before the pins are printed. They are printed in the last hour or so. I haven’t had any problem with the fan so far, but I haven’t printed part with bits that stick out horizontally since I did that change. Maybe something to try.

You can tweak the supports by clicking on "Supports painting.
After clicking, look at model from underneath again and you should see a shaded checkerboard pattern which is what Studio logic thinks is the correct support region.
If you increase/decrease the slider for “Highlight overhang areas” it should increase/decrease that pattern making supports larger or smaller as needed
You can increase/decrease the support that way.
Here is a post where another person had a support problem.
