13 models and an entire year later and I still seem to have the most unliked, undownloaded, and unboosted models ever. Here is Me. I tried tips from Ultimate Makerworld Photography Guide, but that only increased it by 3 downloads. It isn’t that I upload garbage either. Please tell me if any of the items in the list could help or harm:
Join the exclusive program
Go on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
Use gifs for model covers
Design fidgets
Upload so many models
Model creators such as @MalcTheOracle with Gyro Spinner or @Zammer3D with Hexagon Fidget are super successful and all I want is a small piece of their pie. I get really happy when my model reached 3 downloads. My recent model Rose Gift Box has been out for 20ish days and has received 9 likes and 6 downloads. That is AWFUL! The same has been happening to all of my other models. Does anybody have tips to improve this?
If you’re going to add text to your models’ cover images, I would recommend using different fonts that complement the style of the model.
The time you publish models can also make a difference, as the more traction it gets early on, the more it can build on itself. Make sure to make a community post, participate early in contests, etc.
Without community posts, you are fully relying on your past popularity or people stumbling across your model in order for it to get engagement. With a community post, there is more of an opportunity for you to target your model towards a specific niche.
Bambu also does community post topics like #Love Confessions for Valentine’s Day, where you can get exposure and rewards based on your participation.
There is also opportunity to engage with the community, in topics like Usergames. For example, I created Purge Dumpster by CJKat - MakerWorld towards this, which could help it get more views than it would have otherwise.
Not directly from bambu. The organizer is thinking about doing some small rewards towards it. It is mostly a way to take on a new challenge each week for a design, and see what you can come up with!
Reddit can also be a great place to get eyes on your design. The r/BambuLab and r/3DPrinting subreddits are my two favourites. I find the best time to post is early in the morning eastern standard time. Reddit doesn’t always like what you post, but when it does, it can drive traffic to your design.
13 models in a year is not many and they’re all kinda niche.
To get popular you need popular models (I’m no expert, I design things I want, not for popularity)
See what’s trending, design a model based on that.
Find a niche, one that interests you. Make models for that, become the frog king?
Competitions. See the upcoming ones and design something for it & get entered quickly before wlthe delude of hundreds of entries.
My most popular models are usually due to Reddit where I share my creation with that sub as I’m already a member & it’s a cool thing I wanted so I show it off.
And remember it takes time, time you put in & time for a following to build
I have little time, I’ll never be up there with big designers & that’s ok as I have a career & a family that take up my time, I just like sharing my creations & the points are some encouragement at times.
I’ve done quite well on Reddit. It gives an initial boost, and MW takes it from there. The sleigh was too complex so it got no downloads, but the other two did good. The bottom one originally linked to Printables, where I got a few thousand downloads & #1 on trending (and like one roll of filament because Printables does not pay well for trending models).
And post wayyy more models. I’ve been here for about a year and have 40 and that’s still less than I’d like.
I’ve been thinking about posting on Reddit but not sure how well it would be received as it would be self promotion. Have you found any issue with people or mods complaining about that ?
